The protest intended to &#8220;engage the community to promote civic awareness and express our pride in a Constitution that has endured for almost 250 years.&#8221;(Chitose Suzuki \/ Staff Photographer)<\/p>\n<p>Breaking News<\/p>\n<p class=\"dmnc_features-cta-social-cta-social-module__zWZy- mb-4\">Get the latest breaking news from North Texas and beyond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">After the speakers concluded, organizers began preparing hot dogs for the crowd, while kids and families grabbed paint pens of every shade, scribbling on a poster that read \u201cDemocracy.\u201d Organizers also distributed booklets with their calls to action, accompanied by punk music playing throughout the park. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Samantha Mitchell, a leader with Indivisible Dallas, said that the need for community is critical, especially following the passage of President Donald Trump\u2019s \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill\u201d on Thursday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/07\/02\/whats-in-the-big-beautiful-bill-a-look-at-president-trumps-887-page-budget-package\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">887-page legislation<\/a> includes tax breaks and cuts to programs such as Medicaid and SNAP benefits. The act also boosts funding for immigration enforcement and national defense. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">North Texas Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/07\/03\/north-texas-republicans-give-trump-credit-for-passage-of-one-big-beautiful-bill\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">have praised<\/a> the bill for its benefits to their constituents. And today feels like a dirge,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cThis protest is not just for the general public, but it\u2019s for everybody who showed up to the protest to feel more galvanized, to feel like they\u2019re not alone, and to network and build community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Neha Ghael, 54, of Arlington, came to Friday\u2019s event with her parents, Pravin, 82, and Usha, 80. The protest intended to &#8220;engage the community to promote civic awareness and express our pride in a Constitution that has endured for almost 250 years.&#8221;(Chitose Suzuki \/ Staff Photographer)<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Volunteers from Dallas County Volunteer Deputy Registrars were at the event to help attendees register to vote. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Kate Evans, 64, of East Dallas, said she underwent training to become a volunteer earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cEverybody needs to have a voice and power,\u201d Evans said. \u201cAnd voting is an important part of that power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Josh Pathisseril, 22, of Dallas, was among a group of younger participants at Friday\u2019s demonstration.
