PINE VALLEY, CA \u2013 July 3, 2025 \u2013 U.S. Border Patrol agents from the San Diego Sector\u2019s Campo Station intercepted a significant narcotics smuggling operation last Friday, seizing 128.7 pounds of fentanyl pills hidden in a flatbed trailer at the Interstate 8 checkpoint in Pine Valley. Officials report this as one of the sector\u2019s largest fentanyl seizures to date.<\/p>\n

Alert K-9 Uncovers Fentanyl Hidden in Trailer Frame<\/strong><\/p>\n

The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 27, when a pickup truck towing an empty flatbed trailer was referred for secondary inspection. During the search, a Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents to potential narcotics. Upon further investigation, agents discovered 42 bundles of fentanyl concealed in aftermarket compartments within the trailer\u2019s frame.<\/p>\n

The contents were tested and weighed at the Campo Station, confirming the bundles contained 128.7 pounds of fentanyl pills, with an estimated street value of $758,000.<\/p>\n

Driver Arrested, Case Accepted for Prosecution<\/strong><\/p>\n

The truck\u2019s driver, a Mexican national, was placed under arrest. The San Diego County District Attorney\u2019s Office accepted the case for prosecution on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis seizure demonstrates the Border Patrol\u2019s role in protecting American communities,\u201d said San Diego Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Jeffrey D. Stalnaker. \u201cFentanyl is lethal in even tiny amounts, and intercepting such a large quantity saved countless lives across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
