{"id":393397,"date":"2025-11-21T00:14:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T00:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393397\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T00:14:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T00:14:13","slug":"zach-cregger-on-autobiographical-weapons-talks-gladys-pic-resident-evil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393397\/","title":{"rendered":"Zach Cregger On &#8216;Autobiographical&#8217; Weapons, Talks &#8216;Gladys&#8217; Pic, &#8216;Resident Evil&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a very personal movie,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/zach-cregger\/\" id=\"auto-tag_zach-cregger_1\" data-tag=\"zach-cregger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zach Cregger<\/a> about his auteurish horror blockbuster <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/weapons\/\" id=\"auto-tag_weapons_1\" data-tag=\"weapons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Weapons<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cWeapons is autobiographical in a lot of ways,\u201d he tells us on the latest episode of Deadline\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/crew-call\/\" id=\"auto-tag_crew-call_1\" data-tag=\"crew-call\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crew Call<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHow\u2019s that for a movie about a twisted, witchy aunt (Amy Madigan\u2019s sublime Gladys) who has a lock on an entire small town\u2019s young children?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThe Alex chapter, the final chapter,\u201d explains the comedy guy turned genre maestro, \u201cHe\u2019s very much how I felt as a kid. Anyone who grew up in a household of addiction can smell what\u2019s going on in that chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI know what it\u2019s like to live in a house where a foreign substance comes into my house and turns my father into a different person, and I know what it\u2019s like to go to school and act like nothing\u2019s wrong, and then come home and have a scary, scary house with a dad I don\u2019t recognize.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCregger was prompted to write Weapons during post on his first horror movie Barbarian; a best friend of the director\u2019s having died tragically. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWe talk with Cregger about getting Barbarian made by the seat of his pants for $4.5 million, the financing coming together at the last minute (\u201cI aged ten years in that weekend\u201d); the whole meaning and inspiration of Weapons\u2018 children running in the middle of the night to George Harrison\u2019s \u201cBeware of Darkness\u201d; reassembling a cast largely from scratch post strikes, landing Madigan, his next movie for  Resident Evil (\u201cI\u2019ve never seen a Resident Evil movie\u201d) for Sony\/Constantin, the vibrant state of horror at the box office, and what\u2019s up with his Gladys prequel. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWeapons, which Cregger wrote in his garage next to a noisy washer and dryer, was made for a net of $38M and has grossed over $268M at the global box office, a late summer savior.
