{"id":393491,"date":"2025-11-21T01:10:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T01:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393491\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T01:10:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T01:10:17","slug":"bom-declares-cyclone-warning-for-darwin-as-fina-intensifies-tracks-south-west","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393491\/","title":{"rendered":"BOM declares cyclone warning for Darwin as Fina intensifies, tracks south-west"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The Bureau of Meteorology has declared a cyclone warning for Darwin, as Tropical Cyclone Fina approaches the Northern Territory coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The Tiwi Islands and parts of western Arnhem Land are also within the warning area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Cyclone Fina is currently a category one system, but is expected to increase to category two on Friday, with a chance it could reach category three late on Friday or Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Schools have been closed until further notice in the communities of Minjilang, Warruwi, Milikapiti and Pirlangimpi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Charles Darwin University has closed its campuses in Darwin, AFL NT has called off all weekend matches and ferry services have been suspended between Darwin, the Tiwi Islands and Mandorah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Schools in Darwin remain open for now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Territory Emergency Operations Group Incident Controller Superintendent Kirsten Engels told ABC Radio Darwin the key message for Territorians was &#8220;don&#8217;t panic&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Just keep preparing, that\u2019s the key \u2013 preparation,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;We want people to be ready, really take this seriously now, this system may bring gales and destructive winds and intense rainfall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Keep preparing if you\u2019re not already but take this seriously please.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Acting Senior Sergeant Kirsten Engels has a serious expression and is front of a purple background.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/fad56de2a2eb08165b87870f24e65c1b\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Superintendent Kirsten Engels says urged residents to stay at home when the cyclone reached Darwin.
