{"id":393525,"date":"2025-11-21T01:30:35","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T01:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393525\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T01:30:35","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T01:30:35","slug":"estudio-rossi-arquitetos-designs-brazilian-glulam-beach-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393525\/","title":{"rendered":"Est\u00fadio Rossi Arquitetos designs Brazilian glulam beach house"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Local practice Est\u00fadio Rossi Arquitetos has completed a house with a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/glued-laminated-timber\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">glued-laminated timber<\/a> structure on the coast of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/sao-paulo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S\u00e3o Paolo<\/a> that opens to the surrounding landscape through multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/screens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">screens<\/a> and brise soleil.<\/p>\n<p>Known as Casa Guaec\u00e1, the 465-square metre (5,005-square foot) vacation home was completed in 2024 in the neighbourhood of S\u00e3o Sebasti\u00e3o on the former site of a small blue beach house.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2271794 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/casa-guaeca-sao-paolo-estudio-rossi-arquitetos_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Est\u00fadio Rossi Arquitetos Sao Paulo house\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Est\u00fadio Rossi Arquitetos has completed a house in S\u00e3o Paolo<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Casa Guaec\u00e1 was born from the desire to preserve the emotional memory of a modest blue house by the sea,&#8221; architect Bruno Rossi, co-founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/estudiorossi.arq.br\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Est\u00fadio Rossi Arquitetos<\/a>, told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our inspiration came from the place itself \u2013 its history, its landscape, its topography \u2013 and we intended to design a home that engages with the surroundings in a sensitive, respectful and contemporary way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2271798 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/casa-guaeca-sao-paolo-estudio-rossi-arquitetos_dezeen_2364_col_4-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Estudio Rossi in Sao Paulo\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>It was informed by a beach house that previously sat on the same site<\/p>\n<p>The house is set on a steep slope. The architecture studio split the program into three levels, each interacting with a different portion of the site, opening the interiors to the beach, garden, and forest.<\/p>\n<p>Referencing the blue tone of the original structure, the compact ground floor is exposed concrete, while the upper levels are composed of prefabricated, certified glulam eucalyptus timber.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/11\/12\/nitsche-arquitetos-modular-house-piedade-brazil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/casa-piedade-sao-paulo-brazil-nitsche-arquitetos_dezeen_2364_sq-1-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Nitsche Arquitetos in Sao Paulo\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Nitsche Arquitetos focuses on &#8220;broad adaptability&#8221; for modular house in Brazil\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This enabled large spans and structural efficiency, while also enhancing the warmth and openness of the interiors,&#8221; the studio said. &#8220;Wooden brise-soleils provide sun protection, privacy and a dynamic, responsive facade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the natural warmth of the timber stands out against white walls, thin-profile metal detailing and neutral terrazzo floors \u2013 particularly in the airy, double-height living room with floor-to-ceiling windows.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2271808 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/casa-guaeca-sao-paolo-estudio-rossi-arquitetos_dezeen_2364_col_13-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Casa Guaeca in Sao Paulo\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The house is split into three levels<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The project was deeply rewarding in how it was embraced by local residents, who recognised it as a respectful and natural continuation of the region&#8217;s built and natural environment,&#8221; the studio said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This reaffirmed the value of listening closely to the site as a foundation for architectural design.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the prefabricated timber system and modular slabs that reduced on-site waste, the design prioritises passive sustainable strategies, including natural cross-ventilation through carefully placed windows and doors and vernacular, movable brise-soleils for solar shading.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2271801 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/casa-guaeca-sao-paolo-estudio-rossi-arquitetos_dezeen_2364_col_6-852x577.jpg\" alt=\"Estudio Rossi in Sao Paulo\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1601\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Casa Guaec\u00e1 is unique in the way it transforms memory into architecture,&#8221; the studio said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through subtle references to a former structure, a restrained palette of materials and a light footprint on the land, it builds a deep, emotional connection between the house, its inhabitants and the landscape.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Bruno Rossi designed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2019\/12\/22\/bruno-rossi-floating-pavilion-brazil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wooden pavilion<\/a> that floats on a dam in Santo Antonio de Posse, Brazil.
