{"id":393610,"date":"2025-11-21T02:23:16","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T02:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393610\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T02:23:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T02:23:16","slug":"loose-chicken-fouls-n-train-as-subway-stowaway-slows-morning-commute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393610\/","title":{"rendered":"Loose chicken fouls N train as subway stowaway slows morning commute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Call it fowl play.<\/p>\n<p>A loose chicken took a \u201cfree range\u201d ride, scoring a gratis subway trip to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/10\/28\/brooklyn-arson-burglary-suspect-arrested-for-slashing-spree-that-followed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coney Island<\/a> on the N train Thursday morning after it was discovered fouling a subway car in storage.<\/p>\n<p>An MTA train operator called rail control shortly after 5:20 a.m. to report that he\u2019d found a live chicken aboard his train, which was parked on a layup track south of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/09\/18\/more-pics-released-of-assassin-who-gunned-down-young-woman-after-chasing-her-into-queens-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Astoria Blvd.<\/a> The poultry passenger had \u201csoiled the interior of the car,\u201d sources told the Daily News.<\/p>\n<p>The train, which was due to depart from the Astoria-Ditmars station on a southbound run at 6 a.m., reached that station from the layup track around 5:50 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>The train car was deemed too dirty to go into service, an MTA supervisor reported a short time later \u2014 adding that the chicken was \u201crefusing to leave the train.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The MTA\u2019s rail control center put in a call to the city\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycacc.org\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">animal control hotline<\/a>, but did not get a response, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 15 minutes after the train was due to begin its run, MTA crews decided that forcing the chicken off the train into the waiting crowd at Astoria-Ditmars could be unsafe.<\/p>\n<p>Rail control decided to cancel the run and send the train \u2014 and its feathered stowaway \u2014 down to the Coney Island Yard.<\/p>\n<p>An MTA spokesman confirmed the incident, adding that N train service was briefly delayed by 10 minutes because of it.<\/p>\n<p>Sources told The News the plucky bird made it to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/10\/07\/service-on-f-and-g-subway-lines-partially-suspended-after-smoke-condition-in-brooklyn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">southern Brooklyn train yard<\/a> no worse for wear. Animal Control took the fare-jumping fowl into custody around 3 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Call it fowl play.
