CORAL GABLES, Fla. \u2013<\/strong> The Elon men’s basketball team fell 99-72 to Miami on Thursday night at Watsco Center.

\nElon (3-2) shot 51% from the field and went 10-of-21 from 3-point range, but Miami (4-1) countered with 54.4% shooting overall and a 38-22 advantage on the glass. The Hurricanes also turned 18 Elon turnovers into 25 points.

\nRandall Pettus II<\/a> led the Phoenix with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including four 3-pointers, while Chandler Cuthrell<\/a> added 15 points and four rebounds. Bryson Cokley<\/a> was a boost off the bench once again with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and a team-high six rebounds. Ja’Juan Carr<\/a> finished with 12 points and a team-leading five assists.

\nMiami opened strong, building a double-digit lead midway through the first half before Elon responded with a steady offensive stretch. Cokley, Pettus II, and Cuthrell combined for several key baskets as the Phoenix shot 61.5% in the opening period and knocked down seven threes. Elon trimmed the margin to 48-41 heading into halftime.

\nThe Hurricanes, however, took control early in the second half, putting together an 11-0 run to push the lead into double digits for good. Miami outscored Elon 51-31 after the break, fueled by 17 fast-break points and 54 total points in the paint, 26 of which came in the second half.

\nMiami featured four players in double figures, led by Malik Reneau’s 19 points and 18-point performances from both Tre Donaldson and Tru Washington, with Washington also adding a game-high 10 rebounds. Shelton Henderson totaled 16 points and four steals.

\nElon’s bench contributed 21 points, and the Phoenix continued their strong perimeter shooting early in the season, but Miami’s size and transition play proved too much to overcome.
