{"id":393775,"date":"2025-11-21T03:57:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T03:57:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393775\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T03:57:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T03:57:15","slug":"chiefs-coach-claps-back-at-trumps-nfl-kickoff-rule-criticism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393775\/","title":{"rendered":"Chiefs coach claps back at Trump&#8217;s NFL kickoff rule criticism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KANSAS CITY, Mo. \u2014 Kansas City Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub doesn\u2019t care a whole lot about what President Donald Trump thinks of\u00a0new kickoff rules\u00a0that were implemented by the NFL in an attempt to make the play safer and more exciting.<\/p>\n<p>Trump became the first sitting president to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/09\/us-news\/air-force-one-flies-over-northwest-stadium-as-trump-set-to-attend-commanders-lions-game\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">attend a regular-season NFL game<\/a> since Jimmy Carter in 1978 when\u00a0he attended a game\u00a0between the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Two days later, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aGlRrDiOmzk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">appeared on \u201cThe Pat McAfee Show\u201d<\/a> and torched the league\u2019s dynamic kickoff rule, which owners voted to make permanent this year. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37725053\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/kansas-city-chiefs-head-coach-115880864.jpg\" alt=\"Kansas City Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub and head coach Andy Reid (left)\" class=\"wp-image-37725053\"  \/>Kansas City Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub and head coach Andy Reid (left) AP<\/p>\n<p>Under the rule, the ball is kicked from the 35-yard line, but every player on the kicking team must wait at the 40 until the ball hits the ground or is touched by a returner inside the 20-yard line.<\/p>\n<p>There are also rules for if a ball does not reach the landing zone, hits the landing zone without being caught or lands in the end zone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s so terrible. I think it\u2019s so demeaning, and I think it hurts the game. It hurts the pageantry,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/15\/sports\/trump-calls-out-sissy-nfl-kickoff-rule\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump said<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve told that to (NFL Commissioner) Roger Goodell, and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s any safer. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The league has maintained the dynamic kickoff system is safer while\u00a0producing more kickoff returns. <\/p>\n<p>And Toub, who has spent more than two decades coaching special teams in Chicago and Kansas City, didn\u2019t hold back Thursday when he was asked what he thought of the president\u2019s pointed criticism of the kickoff rules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe doesn\u2019t even know what he\u2019s looking at. He has no idea what\u2019s going on with the kickoff rule,\u201d said the normally reserved Toub, his voice rising. \u201cSo take that for what it\u2019s worth.
