{"id":393982,"date":"2025-11-21T05:59:18","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T05:59:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393982\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T05:59:18","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T05:59:18","slug":"criminal-defense-attorney-shannon-locke-announces-run-for-bexar-county-district-attorney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/393982\/","title":{"rendered":"Criminal defense attorney Shannon Locke announces run for Bexar County District Attorney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>BEXAR COUNTY, Texas<\/strong> \u2013 Shannon Locke, a longtime criminal defense attorney in San Antonio and Bexar County, has announced plans to run for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/topic\/Bexar_County_District_Attorney&#039;s_Office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/topic\/Bexar_County_District_Attorney&#039;s_Office\/\">the county\u2019s top prosecutor position<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Locke made the announcement in a Thursday afternoon news release. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In the release, Locke outlined three \u201ccore priorities\u201d his campaign would emphasize: <\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Ensuring that transparency rebuilds trust<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Experience capable of delivering results<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Accountability at all levels<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThis office belongs to the people, not to politicians,\u201d Locke said. \u201cIn every courthouse hallway and every neighborhood I walk, I hear the same thing: people want a justice system that is firm, fair, and focused on solving problems, not scoring headlines. That\u2019s the kind of District Attorney I intend to be<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Prior to law school, Locke worked in an executive position at an unnamed private-sector Fortune 500 company, the release said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Following his official filing, Locke will hold a press conference at 2:30 p.m., joined by former District 9 Councilman John Courage in support. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Current Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said earlier this year that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/06\/05\/watch-at-415-pm-bexar-county-district-attorneys-office-to-deliver-department-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/06\/05\/watch-at-415-pm-bexar-county-district-attorneys-office-to-deliver-department-update\/\">he did not have plans<\/a> to pursue a reelection campaign. Gonzales was elected to the role in 2018, beating incumbent Nico LaHood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Gonzales was re-elected in 2022 over Republican candidate Marc LaHood, the former district attorney\u2019s brother.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Earlier this month, Texas Rep. Troy Martinez Fischer (D-San Antonio) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/11\/10\/rep-trey-martinez-fischer-says-hes-exploring-a-run-to-become-bexar-countys-next-da\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/11\/10\/rep-trey-martinez-fischer-says-hes-exploring-a-run-to-become-bexar-countys-next-da\/\">formed an exploratory committee<\/a> to explore a possible run for the district attorney seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">And, in June 2025, Judge Ron Rangel took similar steps to Fischer, forming his own exploratory committee.
