While it is unclear when the video was recorded, the viewer also posted it to their TikTok account on Nov. 14. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The visitor had already taken her shoes off before she stepped down from a walkway and into the river. While she made gradual steps in the river, some visitors looked on, perhaps curious if the visitor\u2019s attempt to find her phone would be a successful one. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m gonna be famous on TikTok,\u201d the visitor said to onlookers nearly two minutes into the two-minute, 16-second video. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>Watch the video below:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to the viewer, the visitor searched the San Antonio River for approximately six more minutes. She found two rocks and a brick in the river, but she did not find her phone. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The viewer\u2019s video now has more than 1 million views, more than 15,000 shares and nearly 3,000 comments on TikTok. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Despite the visitor\u2019s eagerness to find the device, authorities have said the San Antonio River isn\u2019t the cleanest water for a human to be around. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThe reason why there\u2019s more of the concern as far as pollutants go is because there are elevated levels of bacteria, mostly E. coli bacteria, largely, in downtown San Antonio,\u201d San Antonio River Authority (SARA) Manager of Environmental Sciences Shaun Donovan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/ksat-explains\/2022\/07\/11\/will-the-san-antonio-river-ever-be-swimmable-ksat-explains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/ksat-explains\/2022\/07\/11\/will-the-san-antonio-river-ever-be-swimmable-ksat-explains\/\">told KSAT Explains in July 2022<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to SARA, the E. coli in the river largely originates from excrement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">At the time, KSAT also asked Donovan what would happen if someone fell into the San Antonio River. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cYou\u2019re not going to get sick,\u201d Donovan said. \u201cYou know, if you jump in the river and you take a few gulps of water, things might not be as good, but you\u2019re not going to get sick just from falling in the River Walk.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In addition to waste, the San Antonio River <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2024\/06\/03\/say-what-sa-has-a-giant-river-trash-rake-ksat-explains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2024\/06\/03\/say-what-sa-has-a-giant-river-trash-rake-ksat-explains\/\">also accumulates plenty of trash<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">South Central Texas, which is prone to flash floods, also causes trash to flow and accumulate even faster when water rises rapidly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cNormally we\u2019re seeing about 10 or 15 CFS (cubic feet per second) in the San Antonio River on any normal given day,\u201d SARA Watershed and Park Operations Manager Tommy Mitchell told KSAT Explains in 2024. \u201cAnd we\u2019ll see that rise very rapidly up to 2,000 CFS.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>More recent local news coverage on KSAT: <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2025 by KSAT &#8211;
