{"id":394343,"date":"2025-11-21T09:39:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T09:39:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/394343\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T09:39:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T09:39:13","slug":"miss-mexico-is-crowned-miss-universe-in-thailand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/394343\/","title":{"rendered":"Miss Mexico is crowned Miss Universe in Thailand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BANGKOK (AP) \u2014 F\u00e1tima Bosch Fern\u00e1ndez of Mexico was crowned <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/photo-gallery\/miss-universe-thailand-bangkok-photos-1af9f0ad43af131674ef220e41e72c52\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Miss Universe 2025<\/a> on Friday, a dramatic victory for a 25-year-old at the center of the turbulent 74th staging of the popular beauty pageant in Bangkok who stood up to public bullying from one of the hosts.<\/p>\n<p>The first runner-up was 29-year old Praveenar Singh of Thailand and 25-year-old Stephany Adriana Abasali Nasser of Venezuela placed third.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding up the finishers were Ahtisa Manalo, 28, of the Philippines, and 27-year-old Olivia Yac\u00e9 of Ivory Coast who came fifth.<\/p>\n<p>The bad vibes at this year\u2019s event sprang from a sharp-tongued scolding of the Mexican contestant, Bosch, which sparked a controversy marked by a walkout, feminist solidarity and a teary melodramatic apology from the local organizer who set it all off.<\/p>\n<p>At the livestreamed sashing ceremony for virtually all 130 contestants on Nov. 4, Thai national director Nawat Itsaragrisil hectored Bosch for allegedly not following his guidelines for taking part in local promotional activities. He called security when she spoke up to defend herself.<\/p>\n<p>Bosch walked out of the room, joined by several others in a show of solidarity, including <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/miss-universe-victoria-kjaer-denmark-mexico-5e0101a9176caadd7aa710db4e603b48\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Miss Universe 2024,<\/a> Victoria Kj\u00e6r Theilvig of Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat your director did is not respectful: he called me dumb,\u201d an unbowed Bosch told Thai reporters. \u201cIf it takes away your dignity, you need to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Miss Universe Organization president, Mexican businessman Ra\u00fal Rocha Cant\u00fa, released a statement condemning Nawat\u2019s conduct as \u201cpublic aggression\u201d and \u201cserious abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even Mexico\u2019s first woman president, <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/claudia-sheinbaum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Claudia Sheinbaum<\/a>, piled on, saying at a news conference in her country\u2019s capital that she wanted to give \u201crecognition\u201d to Miss Mexico for voicing her disagreement in a \u201cdignified\u201d way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems to me that it is an example of how women should raise our voices,\u201d Sheinbaum said.<\/p>\n<p>Sheinbaum recalled being told in the past a common phrase that \u201cwomen look more beautiful when they keep quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe women look more beautiful when we raise our voice and participate, because that has to do with the recognition of our rights,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Nawat later made apologies for his actions, appearing both tearful and defiant at the same time .<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf anyone (was) affected and not comfortable it happened, I am so sorry,\u201d he said in front of the contestants. He then turned to them and said \u201cIt\u2019s passed. OK? Are you happy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bosch\u2019s official Miss Universe biography says she studied fashion in Mexico and Italy and has focused on creating sustainable designs and working with discarded materials. It says she has volunteered with sick children, promoted environmental awareness, and engaged in supported migrants and mental health issues. <\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s competition also saw a report that two judges had quit, with one of them suggesting that there was an element of rigging to the contest. The allegation was denied. Separately, Thai police investigated the alleged illegal promotion of online casinos as part of the event\u2019s publicity, a turn of events that may have been connected with the organizers\u2019 feud.<\/p>\n<p>Mishaps and controversies are not rare for the pageant. The <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-entertainment-health-boycotts-middle-east-6d138513ac8517cefc89c0588a879c79\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021 event<\/a> attracted criticism because it was held in Israel, to the dismay of supporters of the Palestinian cause. <\/p>\n<p>An example of a minor misstep \u2014 literally \u2014 occurred Wednesday when Miss Universe Jamaica, Gabrielle Henry, fell off the stage during the evening gown competition.
