His brother, meanwhile, is due to face trial next year on influence-peddling charges linked to a civil service post he took before S\u00e1nchez came to power.<\/p>\n<p>Both of the prime minister\u2019s family members deny wrongdoing and say the cases are <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/espana\/2025-11-19\/el-hermano-del-sanchez-recusa-por-falta-de-imparcialidad-al-tribunal-que-debe-juzgarlo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">politically motivated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A fake story and an alleged leak<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The case against Garc\u00eda Ortiz dates to early 2024, when Spanish media began reporting on a tax fraud investigation into Ayuso\u2019s partner, businessman Alberto Gonz\u00e1lez Amador.<\/p>\n<p>In March of last year, Spanish daily El Mundo published an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/espana\/2025\/11\/20\/691f184be85ece12428b45d5.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> alleging the Madrid prosecutor\u2019s office had offered Gonz\u00e1lez Amador a plea deal \u2014 a fake news story that Ayuso\u2019s chief of staff, Miguel \u00c1ngel Rodr\u00edguez, later <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/espana\/2025-11-04\/miguel-angel-rodriguez-se-contradice-en-el-supremo-y-alega-que-es-periodista-no-notario.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">admitted<\/a> he spread to selected journalists.<\/p>\n<p>When reporters sought confirmation, the prosecutor\u2019s office clarified that it was actually the defense who proposed a plea deal by which the accused would admit to committing tax fraud in exchange for a reduced sentence.
