{"id":394550,"date":"2025-11-21T11:41:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T11:41:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/394550\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T11:41:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T11:41:14","slug":"artemi-panarins-lapse-one-of-many-rangers-defensive-miscues-in-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/394550\/","title":{"rendered":"Artemi Panarin&#8217;s lapse one of many Rangers&#8217; defensive miscues in loss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DENVER \u2014 The Rangers were up by a goal at the tail end of the first period when Artemi Panarin coughed up the puck along the boards.<\/p>\n<p>Flipping it to the middle of the ice, the star Russian wing handed possession back to the Avalanche on their way to evening the score at one-all. <\/p>\n<p>Martin Neces\u2019 feed ricocheted off the skate of Vladislav Gavrikov to Nathan MacKinnon at the back post for an easy tap-in.<\/p>\n<p>The goal came with roughly 26 seconds left in the first period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought I [saw] someone in the middle, but no one [was] there,\u201d said Panarin, who admitted that he needed to rewatch the play to fully comment on it.<\/p>\n<p>It was one of a couple defensive-zone blunders from No. 10 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/21\/sports\/rangers-gap-with-avalanche-exposed-in-loss\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rangers\u2019 6-3 loss to the Avs<\/a> Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve had a lot of conversations with Artemi throughout the course of the season,\u201d head coach Mike Sullivan said after the loss. \u201cWe don\u2019t expect him to be the best defensive player out there, but everyone\u2019s required to play defense \u2014 and that\u2019s the conversation that we have. AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd those are the conversations that I\u2019ve had with him is just recognizing when those situations are when you\u2019ve got to lock down.\u201cEverybody knows he drives offense, he\u2019s a talented player. But I think he\u2019s also capable of defending when he\u2019s committed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amid a season-long struggle to put the puck in the back of the net, the Blueshirts deployed their ninth different trio of players on the top line Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>Panarin, Vincent Trocheck and J.T.
