{"id":394632,"date":"2025-11-21T12:37:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T12:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/394632\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T12:37:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T12:37:13","slug":"open-city-playing-first-post-pandemic-philadelphia-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/394632\/","title":{"rendered":"Open City playing first post-pandemic Philadelphia show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                    Sunday\u2019s show putting community first, providing safe space while aiding local organizations<\/p>\n<p>The band\u2019s music explores a range of issues through Rubino\u2019s \u201cstream-of-consciousness lyrics,\u201d with a particular focus on the oppression of marginalized communities, including queer people and people of color.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels vital to provide space for folks to congregate, to celebrate, to feel safe, to feel seen, to feel a part of [the] community together,\u201d Rubino said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s something that\u2019s at the core of what punk means to me is sharing in that community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked what led to the fundraiser gig, Yemin flipped the question: \u201cWhy aren\u2019t they all benefits?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no reason for us to not be able to use what little sort of influence we have to do some good, especially in a time that is politically one of the darkest times that I\u2019ve lived through,\u201d Yemin said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-723434\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/open-city-band-2.jpg\" alt=\"The band Open City performing\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1079\"  \/>Open City will be playing their first show in Philadelphia since 2019 on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025, in the famed basement at First Unitarian Church. (Photo by Farrah Skeiky)<\/p>\n<p>Ticket sales for Sunday\u2019s show will go directly to Juntos, a Philly-based organization that has been advocating for community members affected by <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/north-philadelphia-reported-ice-operation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ICE operations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce you\u2019ve got a militarized response to a fabricated problem, you\u2019ve got the foundations of the unravelling of whatever elements of a democratic republic we have still functioning,\u201d Yemin said. \u201c[We] feel like supporting an organization that\u2019s trying to do its part to turn that tide and to keep people safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The band will also trade copies of their first album to anyone who brings a nonperishable food donation for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sharefoodprogram.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Share Food Program<\/a> community fridges.<\/p>\n<p>Ticket prices start at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etix.com\/ticket\/p\/57809426\/open-citywith-the-hirs-collectivedisappearancestaurus-judge-philadelphia-the-first-unitarian-church\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$13.48<\/a>. Doors open at 3 p.m. and the show starts at 3:30.
