{"id":395092,"date":"2025-11-21T17:27:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T17:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/395092\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T17:27:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T17:27:13","slug":"eric-swalwell-announces-california-governor-bid-on-jimmy-kimmels-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/395092\/","title":{"rendered":"Eric Swalwell Announces California Governor Bid On Jimmy Kimmel&#8217;s Show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRep. <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/eric-swalwell\/\" id=\"auto-tag_eric-swalwell\" data-tag=\"eric-swalwell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eric Swalwell<\/a> (D-CA) took to <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/jimmy-kimmel\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jimmy-kimmel\" data-tag=\"jimmy-kimmel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> Live! on Thursday to debut his bid for governor of California, entering a crowded field of contenders looking to succeed Gavin Newsom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThe president is not going to like this show,\u201d Swalwell said as he sat down with Kimmel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cHe is especially not going to like it tonight,\u201d the host said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThey chatted for a bit about the Jeffrey Epstein files before Swalwell said, \u201cI came here tonight, Jimmy, to tell you and your audience that I am running to be the next governor of California.\u201d The audience then cheered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSwalwell was elected to the House in 2012 and, during Trump\u2019s tenure, has become one of the president\u2019s highest-profile critics. He ran for president in 2020 but dropped out before the primaries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tKimmel himself has been a target of Trump, most recently this week as <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/11\/trump-jimmy-kimmel-jeffrey-epstein-1236624554\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1236624554\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the president called on ABC to fire him<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ericswalwell.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">introductory campaign video<\/a>, Swalwell cited Trump right off the bat, saying, \u201cThe next governor of California has two jobs: One, keep the worst president in our history out of our homes, out of our streets and out of our lives. \u2026 And two, bring us a new California.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tKimmel asked Swalwell about a Justice Department investigation looking into potential mortgage fraud. \u201cNonsense,\u201d Swalwell said, noting other investigations of other presidential foes including Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and New York Attorney General Letitia James.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWatch the clip above.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tEarlier in the show, Kimmel <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/11\/jimmy-kimmel-response-donald-trump-attack-quiet-piggy-1236625536\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">responded <\/a>to Trump\u2019s latest attack, telling the audience, \u201cHe keeps saying we have bad ratings. And you should listen to him \u2013 because if anyone knows about bad ratings \u2013 it\u2019s that guy!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSwalwell joins a field of Democratic contenders that includes former Rep. Katie Porter; former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; former Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra; and another 2020 presidential contender, Tom Steyer, the hedge fund founder and climate activist who joined the race this week. They will compete in an open primary next year, along with Republicans who include Chad Bianco, the sheriff of Riverside County, and former Fox News commentator Steve Hilton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThere could be more. Developer Rick Caruso has been looking at the race, but he\u2019s also been focused on Los Angeles and critical of Mayor Karen Bass, who faces reelection next year. The latest entry of candidates follows the decisions by former Vice President Kamala Harris and Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) not to run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSwalwell is not the first to announce a campaign bid on late-night TV. Just over two decades ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger went on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to say that he was running in the California recall. In the 2020 presidential race, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to say she was running.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe FCC has treated late-night talk shows as exempt from broadcasters\u2019 equal time requirements, but Trump\u2019s chairman of the agency, Brendan Carr, has<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/09\/brendan-carr-the-view-fcc-jimmy-kimmel-1236548571\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> recently suggested<\/a> that they would look into The View and other shows to see if they still qualify as a \u201cbona fide news program.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Rep.
