What happened before man was shot by police in Phoenix?<\/p>\n
The incident<\/a> began when officers responded to a stolen vehicle call near Fourth Avenue and Osborn Road around 6:45 p.m. and heard unrelated gunfire nearby, according to the Phoenix Police Department.<\/p>\n After a witness pointed officers in the direction of the gunfire, they found a man, identified later as Vasquez, standing next to a car that had a rifle on top of it.<\/p>\n Officers gave commands, but Vasquez allegedly grabbed the weapon, got into the car and drove off.<\/p>\n While officers pursued the car, Vasquez allegedly fired his gun while driving along neighborhood streets.<\/p>\n The chase ended just before 7 p.m. near 16th and Portland streets<\/a>, just south of Interstate 10.
