{"id":395595,"date":"2025-11-21T22:40:12","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T22:40:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/395595\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T22:40:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T22:40:12","slug":"u-of-m-fairview-and-m-physicians-to-resume-negotiations-after-controversial-health-care-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/395595\/","title":{"rendered":"U of M, Fairview and M Physicians to resume negotiations after controversial health care deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Minnesota, Fairview Health Services, and M Physicians are returning to the negotiating table regarding a tentative health care deal announced last week.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Keith Ellison said he will continue to manage the negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed partnership between Fairview and M Physicians would begin Jan. 1, 2027, and last for 10 years. Both sides say the deal wouldn\u2019t change how or where patients receive care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/kstp.com\/kstp-news\/top-news\/university-of-minnesota-denounces-fairview-deal-with-umn-physicians-calls-it-hostile-takeover-of-med-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">University of Minnesota denounces Fairview deal with M Physicians, calls it \u2018hostile takeover\u2019 of med school<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The university pushed back on the deal last week, calling it a \u201chostile takeover\u201d of its medical school.<\/p>\n<p>It now says it is \u201clooking forward to negotiations in mediation with M Physicians and Fairview.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Fairview says that while it is willing to participate in discussions, it remains committed to last week\u2019s deal, which the organization called \u201cbinding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFairview will continue\u00a0to\u00a0participate\u00a0in time-limited discussions, but it\u00a0would be irresponsible to allow open-ended negotiations,\u00a0to\u00a0revisit terms that have already been settled, or\u00a0to\u00a0return to\u00a0structures that have already failed.\u00a0The foundational agreement already reached between Fairview and UMP\u00a0offers a clear path forward, and it is essential that the work continues\u00a0without unnecessary barriers,\u201d it said, in part, in a statement.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>M Physicians also sent the following statement:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUniversity of Minnesota Physicians (M Physicians), the clinical practice for the faculty of the University of Minnesota Medical School, looks forward to advancing our foundational clinical agreement with Fairview Health Services while continuing to serve the academic mission of the University of Minnesota. We intend to complete our definitive clinical agreement with Fairview by the end of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor M Physicians, it is crucial to ensure that the stability afforded by our foundational agreement with Fairview will continue for patients, clinicians, faculty, staff and learners\u2013today, tomorrow and for the next decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cWe are grateful for the opportunity to meet our partners at the table under the continued facilitation of the Minnesota Attorney General\u2019s Office, strategic facilitator Lois Quam, and an agreed upon mediator.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cOur shared efforts to provide leading edge clinical care to Minnesota\u2019s patients, train the next generation of Minnesota\u2019s physicians and healthcare providers, and research innovations for our state will lead to a strong and stable future for Minnesota\u2019s healthcare.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With Fairview\u2019s and M Physicians\u2019 stance, it\u2019s unclear what the university hopes to achieve in additional negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>The following is a statement from the university:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University of Minnesota looks forward to negotiations in mediation with M Physicians and Fairview. We are hopeful that together, we can reach an agreement that best serves the health and healthcare needs of Minnesota\u2014not only for today, but for decades to come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is hard work ahead of us and trust to rebuild. We are eager to start that process, and grateful to the Attorney General for bringing the parties back together.
