U.S. Sen. Katie Britt<\/a>, R-Ala., says she is not in favor of a clean extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies amid reporting from Punchbowl News<\/a> that she is trying to get President Donald Trump to agree to a plan on the issue. <\/p>\n

\u201cSen. Katie Britt <\/b>(R-Ala.) has spoken with the president several times this week to pitch the idea, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

Britt and other <\/b>GOP senators, some with different views on the subject, were scheduled to meet with Trump on Thursday, but we\u2019re told the meeting was canceled for unrelated reasons.\u201d <\/p>\n

But Britt clarified on X that she is not in support of a clean extension of the subsidies that are set to expire on Dec. 31.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Republicans work on fixing Democrats\u2019 health care disaster, I have long stated that any clean extension of these COVID-era subsidies continues to be a nonstarter.\u201d<\/p>\n

AL.com has contacted the senator\u2019s office about the report and her stance on ACA subsidies. <\/p>\n

The subsidies are tax credits under the ACA that made health insurance more affordable and accessible for millions of Americans. <\/p>\n

Their expiration will result in premiums doubling and more than 130,000 Alabamians losing access<\/a> to health care. <\/p>\n

Britt has previously been described as a key negotiator and intermediary between the White House and congressional members in the bipartisan deal to end the shutdown<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The GOP has reportedly been deliberating internally to determine a plan to address healthcare as many Republicans believe the issue can lead to many losses in the 2026 midterms.<\/p>\n

According to the Alabama Reflector<\/a>, Britt previously expressed skepticism at a Democrat plan to extend ACA subsidies for a year saying, \u201ca proposal of just a one-year extension doesn\u2019t deal with any of the issues that are in front of us on that.\u201d<\/p>\n
