\n\tBill Maher<\/a> concluded the Season 23 finale of Real Time by once again hitting back at Larry David<\/a> and defending his dinner with president Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile going on a spiel about the pitfalls of ostracizing family members for voting MAGA, the TV personality pivoted to his personal experience. Maher previously shrugged off criticisms of his supper with the GOP leader, which fellow comic David satirized in an April New York Times essay titled \u201cMy Dinner with Hitler.\u201d<\/a> In response, Maher had called the op-ed \u201cinsulting,\u201d<\/a> noting shortly thereafter that \u201c\u2018Nazi\u2019 is a hard word to use with nuance.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tMaher lamented on the episode: \u201cThis is so childish, so purely emotional \u2014 the people who got all butt-hurt because I had dinner with him. You know, \u2019cause he\u2019s Hitler. Except he\u2019s not. So unhelpful and dumb. Trump is the most supportive president Israel and the Jews ever had.\u201d (Though Trump has been a supporter of Israel, he has also wielded antisemitism as a weapon to quell dissent about Gaza<\/a>, according to a representative survey, and drawn criticism from Jewish groups for using a slur<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\n\tMaher continued, \u201cEvery year, I used to ask Larry David to do Real Time and he\u2019d always say, \u2018Bill, I can\u2019t, I\u2019m not smart enough about politics to do your show.\u2019 Yeah, I get that now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tContinuing with his rant, Maher argued against going \u201cfull high school,\u201d likening Democrats\u2019 unwillingness to engage with Trump as akin to banning him from their \u201clunch table.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou are not serious people,\u201d he quipped, quoting Brian Cox\u2019s Logan Roy in HBO\u2019s Succession.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cWhat exactly is the argument? That by talking to Trump I\u2019ll elevate him? Oh my god, don\u2019t tell me he could become president. Well, I guess [NYC Mayor-elect Zohran] Mamdani is gonna elevate Trump because he went to the White House today, and look who\u2019s getting along now?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNoting that Trump makes decisions based on personal relationships given that he is a \u201cpeople guy,\u201d Maher encouraged others to take his approach.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIf anything, we need more people like me having dinner with him. You complain he\u2019s surrounded by ass-kissers but your strategy is to make sure no one but ass-kissers are around him? You are not serious people,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
