A TikTok of a woman wading through the murky, waist-high waters of the San Antonio River as she tries to find her dropped cell phone has pulled in more than 1.5 million views.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Needless to say, viewers are expressing both both disgust and concern about the the blonde, baseball cap-wearing woman\u2019s health following her dip in the downtown waterway.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the two-minute clip, she peers down from the River Walk into the water, searching for her lost phone. <\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019m going to feel around with my feet,\u201d she says before slipping into the murky water below.<\/p>\n

At one point, the crowd cheers as she pulls an object from the river. But instead of her cell phone, the recovered item turns out to be a brick.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The TikTok user who posted the video, @Doskogirl, explains in its caption that the woman trudged through the river for eight minutes seeking her phone \u2014\u00a0all to no avail.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The video has racked up some 60,000 likes and more than 3,000 views as of press time. Many user comments on the clip express concern for the woman\u2019s well-being.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI live in San Antonio, I hope she saw a doctor afterwards,\u201d TikTok user @Debrdua commented. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, @priscillajanneth wrote that she\u2019d \u201crather be phoneless\u201d than brave downtown\u2019s greenish waters: \u201cThat is absolutely disgusting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Indeed, health experts advise against swimming in the San Antonio River.<\/p>\n

The concentration of E. coli bacteria in river is 4 to 5 times higher than the state recommends for safe swimming, according to a 2022 report from the Express-News. E. coli poses serious hazards to humans if ingested, including diarrhea, urinary tract infections and worse. <\/p>\n

Other hazards include debris and sediment that can act as quicksand, according to experts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Which probably explains why swimming in the San Antonio River has been outlawed since 1976. Folks who violate the city ordinance face fines of up to $500.\u00a0<\/p>\n
