One person is dead, another is in critical condition, and a third is out of danger after they got hit by a REM train on Montreal’s South Shore.<\/p>\n

Longueuil police said they received a call at around 3:10 a.m. on Saturday, at a time when no scheduled trains were running.<\/p>\n

Provincial police confirmed three young men were struck by a REM train near the Du Quartier station. A 19-year-old died at the scene, a 22-year-old is being treated for serious and possibly life-threatening injuries, and another 19-year-old is now out of danger.<\/p>\n

The REM communications department told Radio-Canada the incident occurred after “an intrusion onto the tracks.”<\/p>\n

On Saturday morning, an emergency response led to the suspension of service between Brossard and Panama stations in both directions, according to the REM. A shuttle service was put in place.<\/p>\n

“A group of people walking attempted to cross Highway 10 and the REM tracks to reach the other side. Despite the arrival of a train, they continued walking,” S\u00fbret\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec spokesperson Sgt. \u00c8ve Brochu-Joubert told CBC.<\/p>\n
