{"id":397106,"date":"2025-11-22T14:39:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T14:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/397106\/"},"modified":"2025-11-22T14:39:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T14:39:17","slug":"gaiss-tops-house-comet-in-latvia-with-corrugated-metal-roof","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/397106\/","title":{"rendered":"Gaiss tops House Comet in Latvia with corrugated metal roof"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Red-painted timber walls and a white <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/corrugated-metal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">corrugated metal<\/a> roof form the &#8220;bold and distinctive&#8221; exterior of House Comet, a family <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/houses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">home<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/riga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Riga<\/a>, Latvia, designed by local architecture studio Gaiss.<\/p>\n<p>Named after its location on Kom\u0113tas Iela, or Comet Street, in Riga&#8217;s suburbs, the 175-square-metre home is a contemporary take on a traditional Latvian barn, informed by its surroundings where urban and rural meet.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2271341 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/house-comet-gaiss-riga-latvia-architecture-residential_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"House Comet by Gaiss\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Gaiss has created a red house in Latvia<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The neighbourhood marks a transition between a newly developed apartment district and an intact green forest area in Riga,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/gaissarhitekti.lv\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gaiss<\/a> told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Given its distance from the denser parts of the city, bold and distinctive architecture seemed appropriate here,&#8221; it added.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2271344 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/house-comet-gaiss-riga-latvia-architecture-residential_dezeen_2364_col_3-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Red house in Latvia\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"  \/>It is topped with a white corrugated metal roof<\/p>\n<p>The clients asked that House Comet&#8217;s interior be fully lined in wood. This led Gaiss to construct the home with a frame and panels of glue-laminated timber, which are left exposed and stained white for the walls and ceilings.<\/p>\n<p>Externally, the red-painted timber planks of the lower portion were painted a deep shade of red in reference to the red barns common in Sweden, where the clients ski during winter. This is mirrored in the colour of the fence that wraps the home&#8217;s garden.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2271361 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/house-comet-gaiss-riga-latvia-architecture-residential_dezeen_2364_col_18-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"House Comet by Gaiss\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>House Comet has a double-height living room<\/p>\n<p>By contrast, the upper section of House Comet&#8217;s exterior and its roof are clad in white corrugated metal, which, according to Gaiss, was informed by the client&#8217;s interest in Japanese architecture.<\/p>\n<p>The home&#8217;s main bedroom and its double-height living, dining and kitchen area sit on either side of a large entrance hall at its centre, which is crossed overhead by a bridge-like landing that connects the first-floor children&#8217;s bedrooms.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/07\/11\/gate-lodge-ireland-a2-architects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/gate-lodge-ireland-a2-architects-sq_dezeen_2364_col_0-e1753869258274-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Gate Lodge by A2 Architects\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> A2 Architects tops Gate Lodge in Ireland with red roof\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Full-height windows and sliding glass doors open the living area out onto a timber terrace that wraps the home&#8217;s western end.
