Governor Kathy Hochul announced the opening dates for New York\u2019s flagship ski mountains for the 2025\u201326 winter season.<\/p>\n
Whiteface Mountain and Mt Van Hoevenberg were the first to open on Nov. 15, with Mt Van Hoevenberg available to season passholders and opening to the public on Nov. 28. Whiteface, Gore, and Belleayre open to season passholders today, Nov. 21, and to the public tomorrow, Nov. 22.<\/p>\n
\u201cNew York is home to some of the best skiing and winter recreation in the country,\u201d said Hochul. She emphasized the new multi-resort passes that make exploring New York\u2019s ski regions easier.<\/p>\n
Upgrades across the state\u2019s ski areas include enhanced snowmaking systems, new learning zones, and improved guest amenities. Belleayre Mountain features a new lodge and expanded facilities, while Gore Mountain has a new lift and lodge.<\/p>\n
Economic impact<\/strong><\/p>\n In 2024, New York\u2019s ski areas generated over $1.32 billion in economic output, supporting more than 13,000 jobs. The Olympic Regional Development Authority facilities contributed significantly to this impact.<\/p>\n Empire State Development President Hope Knight highlighted the importance of ski areas to the state\u2019s winter tourism economy, noting their role in supporting local businesses.<\/p>\n Skiing and community<\/strong><\/p>\n New York\u2019s ski areas are involved in community and educational programs, encouraging youth participation in winter sports. Local schools use the mountains for training, providing young athletes with real-world experience.<\/p>\n I SKI NY President Scott Brandi said, \u201cNew York boasts the best skiing and winter experience in the region,\u201d emphasizing the state\u2019s diverse terrain and experiences.<\/p>\n New York\u2019s ski resorts continue to receive national recognition, with several ranking highly in SKI Magazine\u2019s 2026 Resort Guide and Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveler\u2019s 2025 awards.<\/p>\n
