{"id":397709,"date":"2025-11-22T21:10:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T21:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/397709\/"},"modified":"2025-11-22T21:10:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T21:10:20","slug":"severe-tropical-cyclone-fina-moves-towards-wa-as-darwin-wakes-to-survey-the-damage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/397709\/","title":{"rendered":"Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina moves towards WA as Darwin wakes to survey the damage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina has passed Darwin as a category three, with the weather system&#8217;s gale-force winds leaving a path of destruction as it continues west into the ocean.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Fina was the Northern Territory&#8217;s strongest cyclone to pass Darwin since <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2024-12-23\/nt-cyclone-tracy-50-year-anniversary-a-force-of-nature\/104521560\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/104521560\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the deadly Cyclone Tracey in 1975<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The system was also more powerful than Cyclone Marcus, which passed Darwin as a category two in 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Follow our <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-11-23\/tropical-cyclone-fina-live-updates-sunday-november-23\/106041128\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106041128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">live blog to keep up-to-date on Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\"><a class=\"Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/warning\/tropical-cyclone-forecast-track-map\/IDD65011\" data-component=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Now tracking west-south-west<\/a>, Severe TC Fina is picking up strength over the Timor Sea and could hit the top of Western Australia in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">A cyclone warning remains in place from Wadeye to Cape Hotham \u2014 including Tiwi Islands, Dundee Beach, Darwin, Milikapiti, Pirlangimpi and Wurrumiyanga \u2014 and a watch zone is active from Wadeye in the NT to Troughton Island and Kalumburu in WA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">According to the Bureau of Meteorology&#8217;s (BOM)\u00a04:30am update, sustained winds near the centre of the cyclone reached 140 kilometres per hour this morning and Fina produced wind gusts up to 195km\/h.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">BOM said &#8220;destructive wind gusts&#8221; of up to 120km\/h could continue impacting the Cox Peninsula and Dundee Beach in the coming hours, while gales are likely to continue around the Tiwi Island and coastal areas such as between Darwin and Cape Hothham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Heavy to locally intense rainfall, with the potential to lead to flash flooding, is expected to continue around Darwin and south-west to Daly River Mouth this morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">But the BOM said &#8220;conditions are forecast to ease&#8221;
