Bill Maher<\/strong> called out Molly McNearney<\/strong>, the wife of Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong>, over her cutting off relatives after giving them an \u201cultimatum\u201d over President Donald Trump<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s Real Time<\/a>, Maher torched liberals who believe in cutting MAGA-supporting family and friends out of their lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cMolly McNearney, Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s wife and head writer, went public on this topic recently, so I feel it\u2019s fair to comment, respectfully, in public,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n

McNearney, the co-head writer and executive producer of her husband\u2019s late-night show, went on the We Can Do Hard Things podcast<\/a> earlier this month where she said she has sympathy for Trump-supporting family members \u201cdeliberately being misinformed every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that her husband is \u201cfighting\u201d Trump every day, making those relationships even more complicated. Kimmel is a vocal critic<\/a> of Trump, and the president has taken public shots at the late-night host too and even called<\/a> for him to be taken off the air.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo me, them voting for Trump is them not voting for my husband and me and our family,\u201d McNearney said, revealing she\u2019s lost relationships with family members.<\/p>\n

After trying to convince family members not to vote for Trump, McNearney said she grew closer to those she was \u201caligned\u201d with.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve definitely pulled in closer with the family that I feel more aligned with. And I hate that this has happened,\u201d she said. \u201cPart of me goes, \u2018Don\u2019t let politics get in the way.\u2019 But to me, this isn\u2019t politics. It\u2019s truly values. And we\u2019re not aligned anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maher saw no real logic in the move by McNearney and argued it represents a bigger problem on the left.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe says she\u2019s lost relationships with relatives because she wrote them an email before the election with ten reasons why they shouldn\u2019t vote for Trump, and some still didn\u2019t obey, so you know,\u201d he said, then running his hand across his neck.<\/p>\n

\u201cUltimatums,\u201d he added, rightly make people rethink the person giving the ultimatum before they rethink their politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cTen reasons? I can think of 100. But I would never present it to someone as an ultimatum. Ultimatums don\u2019t make people rethink their politics. They make them rethink you,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n

He wrapped up by pointing to purists like McNearney as the reason former Vice President Kamala Harris<\/strong> lost in 2024 and why we now having a second helping of MAGA in the White House.<\/p>\n

\u201cWrite a top ten list to yourself where you try to imagine ten reasons why 77 million Americans didn\u2019t want to trust you with taking power, and I say that as someone who votes Democratic,\u201d he said. \u201cAs I like to remind my very pure friends, we voted for the same person. You\u2019re just why she lost.\u201d<\/p>\n
