{"id":398819,"date":"2025-11-23T09:19:22","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T09:19:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/398819\/"},"modified":"2025-11-23T09:19:22","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T09:19:22","slug":"b-c-producers-frustrated-after-alcohol-excluded-from-interprovincial-trade-deal-bc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/398819\/","title":{"rendered":"B.C. producers frustrated after alcohol excluded from interprovincial trade deal &#8211; BC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tDescrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tIncrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>Producers in B.C.\u2019s food and beverage sector say they are frustrated that <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/alcohol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alcohol<\/a> was excluded from a new national agreement aimed at reducing <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/interprovincial-trade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interprovincial trade<\/a> barriers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Mutual Recognition Agreement <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11533661\/bc-led-agreement-removes-interprovincial-trade-barriers-not-food-alcohol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was signed this week<\/a> by governments across the country, allowing goods approved in one province be sold in another starting in December.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement will apply to the sale of thousands of products ranging from manufacturing inputs and health technologies to clothing, toys, industrial products, tires and vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol, however, was excluded and is being dealt with separately through a memorandum of understanding among provinces.<\/p>\n<p>James Donaldson, CEO of B.C. Howe Institute told Global News alcohol was excluded from the Canadian Mutual Recognition Agreement because it remains financially significant for provinces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot surprising, alcohol is a huge moneymaker for provinces,\u201d he said.
