PHOENIX \u2014 Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll\u2019s return from the injured list (fractured wrist) is \u201cimminent,\u201d manager Torey Lovullo said before Friday\u2019s game against the Kansas City Royals.<\/p>\n

Carroll took live at-bats against rehabbing D-backs reliever Kendall Graveman on Friday morning after he played in an Arizona Complex League game on Thursday evening. Carroll asked to play the rehab game<\/a> at Salt River Fields, and Lovullo told 12News<\/a> he also asked to be activated off the injured list on Friday.<\/p>\n

Lovullo did not give an exact date when Carroll would be reinstated, but he left the door open for this weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a chance to talk to Corbin a few minutes ago to see how he\u2019s feeling,\u201d Lovullo said. \u201cI think he\u2019s feeling great based on the information he shared with me. It seems to me after hearing this and passing it along that his return is imminent. What day is it? I don\u2019t know. It\u2019s closing in real quick.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carroll was struck in the hand by a pitch in Toronto on June 18 and has missed the last 14 games and counting. He suffered a chip fracture in his left wrist. His return is now based on pain tolerance, as the club has claimed he cannot damage the bone further.<\/p>\n

Lovullo asked Carroll how much pain he felt hitting these past couple days.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u200aHe said almost nothing, and it\u2019s been improving daily from the first day, three days ago or four days ago when he said there was a little bit of a bee sting in there,\u201d Lovullo said.<\/p>\n

Carroll wanted to get back before the All-Star break on July 14, and it appears he\u2019s pushed himself to the brink with plenty of time to spare.<\/p>\n

The D-backs could really use their star lead-off man, as well, considering they continue to hover around .500 with the trade deadline less than a month away and an opportunistic schedule ahead. The D-backs play the San Diego Padres starting Monday and host the St. Louis Cardinals after the break, two teams they are chasing in the Wild Card race.<\/p>\n

Who is going to start on Sunday for the Diamondbacks?<\/p>\n

The Diamondbacks have yet to announce their Sunday pitching plan.<\/p>\n

Ryne Nelson will go on Saturday, and Zac Gallen is lined up for Sunday. With the D-backs in the midst of 17 games in 17 days ahead of the break, the club has discussed pushing their rotation back a day. That would give Gallen Monday\u2019s game at the Padres.<\/p>\n

As far as who could start Sunday, Lovullo mentioned the possibility of an opener, as well as right-hander Anthony DeSclafani.<\/p>\n

DeSclafani, Lovullo said, is stretched out enough to provide 70-75 pitches.<\/p>\n
