Real Madrid president Florentino P\u00e9rez brought the Negreira case back into the spotlight, accusing Barcelona and La Liga of a refereeing conspiracy that facilitated the Catalans\u2019 \u201cbest sporting results.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the last two years, Barcelona <\/a>have been under formal investigation for allegedly bribing former vice president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) refereeing committee Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Enr\u00edquez Negreira. <\/p>\n

The Catalans are suspected of paying a total of \u20ac8.4 million (\u00a37.3 million, $9.7 million) from 2001\u201318 to a company owned by Negreira. Barcelona claimed the payments were for refereeing advice and reports, denying any wrongdoing. <\/p>\n

What has become known as the \u201cNegreira case\u201d has been used multiple times by Real Madrid<\/a> in their ongoing battle against referees in La Liga<\/a>. The Spanish giants have accused officials throughout Spain of being corrupt, making decisions that benefit Barcelona over Los Blancos. <\/p>\n

Tensions have somewhat simmered since last season\u2019s all-out war between Real Madrid and Spanish referees, but P\u00e9rez once again stoked the flames at the latest Assembly of Representative Members.<\/p>\n

The Real Madrid president did not hold back when addressing the assembly: \u201cIt\u2019s not normal that Barcelona has paid the vice president of referees more than \u20ac8 million for at least 17 years, whatever the reason.<\/p>\n

\u201cI repeat: Whatever the reason, it\u2019s not normal.\u201d<\/p>\n

P\u00e9rez went on to further accuse Barcelona and La Liga of corruption, citing that 17-year period was Barcelona\u2019s \u201cbest sporting results\u201d in Spain; the Catalans took home nine La Liga titles, six Copa del Rey titles and eight Spanish Super Cups.<\/p>\n

\u201cReal Madrid is the only club that has appeared in the trial. Four [Barcelona] presidents have maintained millionaire payments for 17 years to the vice president of referees,\u201d P\u00e9rez continued. <\/p>\n

\u201cFran Soto has asked us to move on and forget the \u2018Negreira case,\u2019\u201d he said of the current Technical Committee of Referees (TCA) president. \u201cWho is going to forget it? The reality is that they [the referees involved] are still there. It\u2019s a situation that prevents them from acting with neutrality.\u201d<\/p>\n

P\u00e9rez went on to mention that FIFA did not select a single Spanish referee for last summer\u2019s Club World Cup<\/a> in the United States, adding to his argument concerning the quality of officials in Spain.<\/p>\n

The TCA and RFEF have yet to respond to P\u00e9rez\u2019s recent wave of allegations. <\/p>\n
