How a veteran fabricator earned the trust of builders, designers \u2014 and our own Candy Evans.<\/p>\n

Beautiful stone doesn\u2019t become beautiful design on its own. It takes a fabricator with judgment and instinct \u2014 and in Dallas, Delia Larralde has become one of the most trusted.<\/p>\n

She discovered the craft young, after her family moved from Los Angeles to Torre\u00f3n, Mexico. A job at a marble company in her early 20s was supposed to be temporary; instead, it set the direction for her career.<\/p>\n

Larralde fell in love with the process. First with fabrication, then with the raw, unpredictable beauty of stone pulled from the mountains. Back then, dynamite \u2014 not diamond wire \u2014 was still used to break boulders loose, and selecting good material required true instinct.<\/p>\n

\"\"For her kitchen, Candy chose Tempest Light leathered quartzite for the backsplash and counter and Mont Blanc quartzite for the island.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cYou had to have a really good eye,\u201d she said. \u201cBecause of the dynamite, a lot of stone came down with fractures. One bad choice and the entire boulder was no good.\u201d<\/p>\n

From Mexico to Dallas \u2014 the Turning Point<\/p>\n

After moving to Dallas in the mid-90s, Larralde reinvented herself once more. She started selling handcrafted marble sinks online from her garage. Serendipitously, as that business ran its course, a friend from Mexico who had opened a granite fabrication shop reached out for help.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know anything about granite,\u201d she said. \u201cTravertine and marble, yes \u2014 but granite was a different world.\u201d<\/p>\n

She spent a year in the shop with his crew, gaining a working grasp of the tools, the cuts, and the realities of fabrication. When he retired and sold the company, Larralde set out on her own, renting the space she still occupies today and establishing her shop the same way she learned the craft: by doing it.<\/p>\n

Her son Carlos joined soon after, working his way from the lowest-level tasks into the production role he now leads. His attention to detail \u2014 \u201cour secret weapon,\u201d Delia calls it \u2014 is central to how their company, Magick Marble & Granite<\/a>, operates.<\/p>\n

First the Stone, Then the Fabricator<\/strong><\/p>\n

Most people meet Larralde after choosing their slabs. After CandysDirt.com publisher Candy Evans found hers at Texas Counter Fitters \u2014 \u201cthey have the most incredible selection\u201d \u2014 she needed a fabricator with the expertise to execute them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe minute I met Delia, I knew she understood stone the way an editor understands a sentence,\u201d Candy said. \u201cEvery vein mattered. She wasn\u2019t selling me a service. She was protecting me from mistakes I didn\u2019t even know I could make.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Work Homeowners Never See<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once a slab leaves the yard, the real work begins.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople think it\u2019s simple \u2014 buy the slab, cut it, install it,\u201d Larralde said. \u201cThey don\u2019t see the hours of polishing, the detailing, the fragile stones that can fall apart on us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even seemingly flawless slabs can surprise her. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou never know what you\u2019re going to find,\u201d she said. \u201cYou think a slab is perfect, and then you\u2019re fabricating it and there\u2019s a little hairline or something happens. That\u2019s the stressful part \u2014 anything that happens before installation is on us.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Philosophy Built on Patience and Precision<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once the technical dust settles, Larralde\u2019s attention shifts to the part of the experience homeowners feel most: reassurance, clarity, and calm. \u201cMy job is to make this part easy. You want them to move into their home with joy, not regrets,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
