Representative Members of Real Madrid C.F. at Ciudad Deportiva Real Madrid on November 23, 2025, in Valdebebas, Madrid, Spain.

Getty Images

The Ordinary General Assembly of Representative Members of Real Madrid allowed club president Florentino Pérez a platform with which to outline his vision for the future of the club, including a new approach to ownership and investment, but also to hit out at many of his rivals and opponents.

In a fierce speech, which was warmly received by the thousands of members present in the room and more following online or via television, Pérez sought to underline the club’s stance on several topics, ranging from the European Super League to the proposed La Liga fixture in Miami, by linking those stances to the club’s values.

“I recently heard someone say that Real Madrid is against everything, obviously that’s not true, we simply oppose anything that is not normal or ethical, and of course, anything that is not legal,” Pérez said as part of his speech.

“It is not normal, and it is not legal, as three courts have already ruled in the Super League case, to try to prevent clubs from organising their own tournaments,” he continued. “Nor is it normal for European clubs to be forced to play competition formats imposed by UEFA that are designed to favour its balance of power, these formats are detrimental to the spectacle and to the fans.”

Pérez also went on to continue his speech by once again underlining the need for free broadcasting of fixtures, a key element of the Super League proposal.

“It is not normal that, in the 21st century, watching football on television is becoming increasingly expensive, when technology allows for models, even free ones, that benefit fans,” he explained, labelling soccer as “an increasingly expensive product which only alienates soccer fans, who are pushed towards other, more affordable entertainment options”.

Pérez attacks La Liga and the proposal to play a game in Miami

Among the targets of Pérez’s speech were several key figures within Spanish soccer, including La Liga president Javier Tebas and Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzán.

“It is not normal for the president of La Liga and the president of the Spanish Football Federation, who are supposed to ensure the integrity of the competition, to promote a match that distorts La Liga,” he said, taking aim at the controversial topic of the proposed La Liga fixture in Miami between Barcelona and Villarreal.

He continued to say that “it is not normal for them to support Barcelona having the advantage of playing one less match on the opponent’s field, even their own captain, Frenkie de Jong, does not think this is normal, and we still have to listen to Mr. Tebas comparing this nonsense to the global spectacle organized by the NFL at the Bernabéu, and again, he is fabricating a narrative with the sole purpose of attacking Real Madrid”.

He went on to criticize the directors of both organizations, pointing to their incomes of “more than €6 million ($6.9 million) per year, more than Premier League executives even though the Premier League generates much more revenue than La Liga”.

Barcelona all came in for criticism about the Negreira case

Pérez continued, adding that, “of course, it is not normal that Barcelona has paid the vice-president of the referees more than €8 million ($9.2 million) over at least 17 years, whatever the reason”.

He added that, “the vice-president of the refereeing body who, as everyone knows, had key functions in the refereeing system, among other things, he was in charge of communicating the promotion and relegation of referees each season” highlighting that it coincided with “a period of almost 20 years that also coincides, coincidentally, with Barcelona’s best sporting results”.

Florentino Perez, President of Real Madrid, spoke during the Ordinary General Assembly of Representative Members of Real
