{"id":401696,"date":"2025-11-24T16:50:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T16:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/401696\/"},"modified":"2025-11-24T16:50:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T16:50:13","slug":"rick-cotton-announces-retirement-from-port-authority-of-new-york-and-new-jersey-commercial-observer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/401696\/","title":{"rendered":"Rick Cotton Announces Retirement From Port Authority of New York and New Jersey \u2013 Commercial Observer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Rick Cotton<\/b>, the long-standing executive director of the <b><a href=\"https:\/\/commercialobserver.com\/company\/port-authority-of-new-york-and-new-jersey\/\" title=\"Port Authority of New York and New Jersey\" class=\"company-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Port Authority of New York and New Jersey<\/a><\/b> (PANYNJ), will retire from the bi-state transit agency at the beginning of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>While eight and a half years may not seem like a terribly long time for many, that stint makes him the longest-serving head of the agency since the 1940s, when Austin Tobin began a reign that lasted from 1942 until 1972.<\/p>\n<p>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/commercialobserver.com\/2025\/11\/mamdanis-decision-to-retain-jessica-tisch-reassures-commercial-real-estate\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mamdani\u2019s Decision to Retain Jessica Tisch Reassures Commercial Real Estate<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PANYNJ did not say who would succeed Cotton, who described his time as agency head as \u201crewarding\u201d but \u201cexhausting\u201d in a Monday announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Under Cotton\u2019s leadership, the agency has undergone a series of operational reforms and oversaw the major redevelopment of facilities including a $50 billion investment in <b>John F. Kennedy<\/b>,<b> Laguardia<\/b> and <b>Newark <\/b>airports.<\/p>\n<p>Cotton kick-started the \u200b\u200b$10 billion, retail-centric redevelopment of the 73-year-old <b>Port Authority Bus Terminal <\/b>in Midtown that was <a href=\"https:\/\/commercialobserver.com\/2024\/02\/port-authority-bus-terminal-redevelopment-to-add-office-and-retail-space\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced in early 2024<\/a>, while the redevelopment of the <b>World Trade Center<\/b> has also seen progress under Cotton\u2019s tenure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether, [Chairman <b>Kevin O\u2019Toole<\/b> and I] transformed our airports from appalling laughingstocks into award-winning, best-in-class gateways, and jump-started the Midtown Bus Terminal, which had languished for decades,\u201d Cotton said in a statement. \u201cThe foundation is now set for future generations to keep building a stronger, more connected region.
