Coronation Street is currently airing one of its darkest storylines, exploring the issues of coercive control and domestic violence in Todd Grimshaw’s relationship with Theo Silverton. Fans have watched in horror as Todd slowly becomes a shell of his former self while living with his abusive partner.<\/p>\n

With Theo’s behaviour rapidly becoming more extreme, fans have been wondering if and when he’ll ever be caught out. The bad news is that there are more upsetting incidents to come, but as is usually the case in Soapland’s issue-based storylines, we can rest assured that justice be served in the end. Will Coronation Street’s Theo Silverton be caught out soon?\"theo<\/p>\n

In a recent press conference on set at Coronation Street, show producer Kate Brooks confirmed that Todd and Theo’s journey would continue for a while longer. Much like Emmerdale<\/a>‘s similar plot with Belle Dingle<\/a> last year, the soap wants to tell the story over a realistic timeframe.<\/p>\n

“There are red flags and even now, people online say: ‘Todd, run. Theo’s clearly a wrong’un’. But obviously, as is the nature of these relationships, it’s a lot easier said than done,” Brooks explained.<\/p>\n

“Todd loves this man and feels like he can change him. He feels like everything that’s happened to Theo in the past has made him this person who is quite horrific \u2013 make no bones about it.<\/p>\n

“He does some really, really vile things to Todd, but Todd’s seeing the goodness in him as well. So it was important to show the building blocks of why people find themselves in these situations.”<\/p>\n

For now, the immediate focus of the story is Theo’s attempts to isolate Todd from those close to him.<\/p>\n

Theo has already sabotaged Todd’s connections to his ex-partner Billy Mayhew<\/a> and former boss George Shuttleworth<\/a>. Summer Spellman has also mentioned that she barely sees Todd these days, as he’s been avoiding contact with her.<\/p>\n

Todd’s close friendship with Sarah Platt also looks likely to become a target for Theo later this week<\/a>, as she challenges Theo for sneaking around with newcomer Pete<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although some characters like Billy<\/a> have shown slight signs of suspicion around Theo, it seems that it’ll be a longer journey towards any firm discoveries being made…<\/p>\n

“As we take in George and Christina and Sarah \u2013 all these people who care about and love Todd \u2013 they are absolutely oblivious to what’s going on between the two behind closed doors,” Brooks said.<\/p>\n

“And it’s going to be really interesting to watch what happens when people do get a peek inside at what happens behind closed doors…”<\/p>\n

Brooks has also highlighted the importance of Todd reaching his own realisations over Theo’s behaviour, rather than being “saved” by another character.<\/p>\n

“It’s a hard watch. We’re not rooting for Todd and Theo in any way, shape or form,” she added. “This story will naturally progress. Hopefully Todd will realise what is going on and that this is not acceptable.<\/p>\n

“We’re not rooting for this couple \u2013 we’re rooting for Todd. We’re rooting for Todd to see the light.”<\/p>\n

Coronation Street spoilers \u2013 what’s next for Todd and Theo?\"todd<\/p>\n

Coronation Street has announced plans for a special episode<\/a> focusing on Todd and Theo, which will air in the run-up to Christmas.<\/p>\n

“Christmas is often a time where there are spikes in calls to the Samaritans. We wanted to really show Todd and Theo’s journey in the build-up to Christmas,” Kate Brooks said.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got a really special episode<\/a> which is just focused primarily on Todd and Theo’s relationship. But it’s told in a completely different, unique, never-been-done-before way, which will really pack a punch on many levels. So we’ve got that story really shaping up.”<\/p>\n

She added: “It hasn’t been done before \u2013 I don’t think anyone’s ever told a story in this format in this way.<\/p>\n

“I’ve just watched it and have been quite stunned by it. I’ve got to go back and re-watch it again, just to digest what I’ve just watched on screen, because it really is powerful. It’s really emotive.”<\/p>\n
