\n\t\u201cThe Morning Show<\/a>\u201d has a knack for covering current events \u2014\u00a0the MeToo movement, space travel and in Season 4, AI. And that reflection of what\u2019s happening in the real world will likely continue into Season 5.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think we will be leaning into what\u2019s going on now. The current state of affairs is daunting; the world is upside down and how do we navigate through this world of half-truths? What is real? Certainly, the Epstein Files are current now,\u201d executive producer and director Mimi Leder said ahead of Variety\u2018s screening of the finale on November 19 in Los Angeles. \u201cI\u2019m not saying we\u2019re doing that, I\u2019m just saying it\u2019s a constant theme, it seems, from the beginning of our show \u2014 from the Me Too movement to where we are today with the release of the files. Let\u2019s hope there\u2019s some justice for these women.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMark Duplass also hopes that the show covers the current attack on journalism. \u201cI would love to see a big storyline next season where some man, in some position of power, gets his fucking head taken off for calling somebody a piggy on a press line,\u201d he said ahead of the panel.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe panel also featured showrunner Charlotte Stoudt, casting director Victoria Thomas, executive producer Kristin Hahn, executive producer and star Jennifer Aniston<\/a>, actors Boyd Holbrook and Karen Pittman.<\/p>\n

\n\tLeder shared that the Season 4 finale scene of Mia walking into Celine\u2019s office and looking around was shot the day after the election, when Kamala Harris lost to Donald Trump, upping the emotion on set.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was about, is there gonna be a possibility for Mia to assume her power? Is she gonna get there? We knew what the state of the world was and what was happening, and it was terrifying,\u201d Leder, who directed the episode<\/a>, said. \u201cWe just wanted to take moments of Mia with her long fingernails touching the desk and just taking in the room and what could be\u2026 We were definitely saying, \u2018It\u2019s not over. We\u2019ve gotta fight the fight. And we still do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tStoudt added that there are many current issues that the show could tackle going forward, as the goal is to be \u201cemotionally resonant\u201d and for audiences to see \u201cwhat it feels like to be in America.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re not just talking about [the] 47[th president]. That\u2019s not the only thing to talk about \u2014 it\u2019s partly [asking] how can we look at the whole landscape and pull out some interesting things?\u201d she asked. \u201cLike, why do the seven richest guys in the world have a lot of feelings about journalism? And should they be allowed to control those things?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPittman chimed in after Stoudt\u2019s question, answering, \u201cNo. They shouldn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThat sounds as though Paul, played by Jon Hamm, will be back next season. While the group played coy about it during the panel, Leder confirmed to Variety ahead of time that Hamm will return in Season 5.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJon Hamm\u2019s coming back. Is that a spoiler? Who cares?\u201d she laughed. \u201cHe\u2019s going to be back. He\u2019s the Hammster, we love him.\u201d<\/p>\n
