Larry Marano\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>Starr opened up about the biopic, and how he spent two days offering \u201cextensive notes\u201d to director Sam Mendes, in an interview with The New York Times published Wednesday. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Starr said that most of his problems had to do with how his relationship with his first wife, Maureen Starkey Tigrett, was being portrayed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had a writer \u2013 very good writer, great reputation, and he wrote it great, but it had nothing to do with Maureen and I,\u201d Starr explained. \u201cThat\u2019s not how we were. I\u2019d say, \u2018We would never do that.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Starr and Tigrett married in 1965 at the height of Beatlemania. They welcomed three children together, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/16\/entertainment\/zak-starkey-claims-altercation-with-the-whos-roger-daltrey-got-him-fired\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">including famous drummer\u00a0Zak Starkey<\/a>, between 1965 and 1970. The pair divorced in 1975 after 10 years of marriage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had a writer \u2013 very good writer, great reputation, and he wrote it great, but it had nothing to do with Maureen and I,\u201d Starr explained. \u201cThat\u2019s not how we were. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Although Starr admitted that he is now satisfied with how his relationship with his family will be depicted on the big screen, he still had some doubts about other aspects of the film, including its current April 2028 release date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut he\u2019ll do what he\u2019s doing,\u201d Starr said. \u201cAnd I\u2019ll send him peace and love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mendes, 59, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/01\/entertainment\/the-beatles-movies-cast-paul-mescal-harris-dickinson-barry-keoghan-joseph-quinn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">revealed which actors will be portraying<\/a> each Beatle in his \u201cThe Beatles \u2013 A Four-Film Cinematic Event\u201d biopic project earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Mendes revealed earlier this year which actors would be portraying each Beatle in his \u201cThe Beatles \u2013 A Four-Film Cinematic Event\u201d biopic project. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>While \u201cBanshees of Inisherin\u201d star Barry Keoghan, 32, will depict Starr, Paul Mescal\u00a0has been cast as\u00a0Paul McCartney,\u00a0Harris Dickinson\u00a0as\u00a0John Lennon and\u00a0Joseph Quinn\u00a0as\u00a0George Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not just making one film about the\u00a0Beatles\u00a0\u2014 we\u2019re making four,\u201d Mendes said during <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/01\/entertainment\/the-beatles-movies-cast-paul-mescal-harris-dickinson-barry-keoghan-joseph-quinn\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the announcement at CinemaCon 2025<\/a> in March. \u201cPerhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere had to be a way to tell the epic story for a new generation,\u201d the \u201cSkyfall\u201d director added at the time. \u201cI can assure you there is still plenty left to explore and I think we found a way to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Beatles at the height of Beatlemania in 1964. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Mendes plans to release each of the four separate biopics simultaneously to create what he calls \u201cthe first binge-able theatrical experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Besides announcing the main cast members, Mendes also revealed that writers Jez Butterworth (\u201cFord v Ferrari\u201d), Peter Straughan (\u201cConclave\u201d) and Jack Thorne\u00a0(\u201cAdolescence\u201d) would pen the scripts for the four upcoming Beatles flicks.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Starr previously said that he was \u201cexcited\u201d to see the films about himself and his three legendary former bandmates.<\/p>\n<p>Ringo Starr at the height of Beatlemania in 1964. Bettmann Archive<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy job is to observe and kinda take in mannerisms and study him,\u201d Keoghan said regarding how he is preparing to portray Ringo Starr. \u201cI want to humanize him and bring feelings to it and not just sort of imitate.\u201d Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy life as a lad, John\u2019s life, Paul\u2019s life, George\u2019s life, I mean, it must interact in some way,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/ringo-starr-reveals-what-he-really-thinks-about-four-upcoming-beatles-biopics-exclusive-11700927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">told People<\/a> in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019ll be Beatles in mine around when I joined, and there\u2019ll be Beatles in Paul\u2019s. We\u2019ll all be there,\u201d Starr added. \u201cSo I\u2019m excited to see what he does with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for Keoghan, he has reportedly been <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/08\/entertainment\/barry-keoghan-refused-to-play-drums-for-ringo-starr-ahead-of-beatles-biopic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">taking drum lessons<\/a> to prepare for his role as the \u201cOctopus\u2019s Garden\u201d singer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI met him at his house, and he played the drums for me,\u201d the \u201cSaltburn\u201d star said during \u201cJimmy Kimmel\u00a0Live!\u201d in May regarding a once-in-a-lifetime hangout with Starr. \u201cHe asked me to play, but I wasn\u2019t playing the drums for Ringo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy job is to observe and kinda take in mannerisms and study him,\u201d Keoghan added. \u201cI want to humanize him and bring feelings to it and not just sort of imitate.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Don\u2019t pass him by.
