{"id":402417,"date":"2025-11-25T00:22:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T00:22:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/402417\/"},"modified":"2025-11-25T00:22:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T00:22:15","slug":"trump-to-visit-beijing-and-host-xi-for-a-state-visit-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/402417\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump to visit Beijing and host Xi for a state visit in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Donald Trump<\/a> said Monday that he has accepted an invitation from Chinese leader <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/xi-jinping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xi Jinping<\/a> to visit Beijing in April and that he reciprocated by inviting Xi for a state visit to the U.S. later next year.<\/p>\n<p>Trump made the announcement after he spoke with Xi by phone nearly a month after <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-xi-trade-tiktok-tariffs-semiconductors-7934c7772af030ba246ba200adf7bf8b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the two leaders met in person<\/a> in South Korea, saying they discussed issues including Ukraine, fentanyl and <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/soybeans-trade-tariff-china-united-states-export-025792707c4e4e91d975f8558edae1d8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">purchases of American soybeans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur relationship with China is extremely strong!\u201d Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.<\/p>\n<p>Beijing, which announced the phone call first, said nothing about the state visits but noted that the two leaders discussed trade, Taiwan and Ukraine. That is an issue China is interested in due to the new peace negotiation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s relations with Japan sour <\/p>\n<p>Beijing has <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/china-japan-wang-yi-sanae-takaichi-taiwan-5e219ac2ffb3052bdd8bf4b4adc7c187\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">denounced Takaichi\u2019s remarks<\/a>, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi saying over the weekend that Japan \u201ccrossed a red line that should not have been touched.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Xi told Trump on Monday that China and the U.S. should \u201cjointly safeguard the victory of World War II\u201d after they fought together against fascism. The U.S. has taken no side on the sovereignty of the self-governed island but is opposed to the use of force to seize Taiwan. It is obligated by a domestic law to provide sufficient hardware to the island to deter any armed attack.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has maintained strategic ambiguity about whether he would send U.S. troops in case of a war in the Taiwan Strait. His administration has urged Taiwan to increase its defense budget.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan\u2019s foreign ministry said it received official notification this month that the Trump administration approved $330 million in arms sales to Taiwan, including fighter jet parts. Beijing immediately protested, saying it \u201cgrossly violated\u201d the so-called \u201cOne China\u201d principle, by which Beijing considers Taiwan to be part of Chinese territory.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said nothing publicly about Taiwan, whereas the Chinese statement said Trump told Xi that the U.S. \u201cunderstands how important the Taiwan question is to China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Talk of Ukraine<\/p>\n<p>The phone call coincided with <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-zelenskyy-ukraine-russia-war-ece1a80b435f402b475fb180023a75dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the latest push<\/a> by the Trump administration to end the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Xi expressed hope for a \u201cfair, lasting and binding peace agreement\u201d in Ukraine and said the crisis should be resolved \u201cat its root,\u201d the Chinese Foreign Ministry said. Xi stressed Beijing\u2019s support for \u201call efforts that are conducive to peace,\u201d according to the statement. <\/p>\n<p>However, Western governments have <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nato-china-pacific-washington-59876b88cad3ccf15cc5443912fe3d5b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accused Beijing<\/a> of enabling the war through its industrial support for Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and Xi discussed trade<\/p>\n<p>Trump said on social media that he spoke with Xi about \u201cFentanyl, Soybeans and other Farm Products, etc.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have done a good, and very important, deal for our Great Farmers \u2014 and it will only get better,\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Since he met Xi in South Korea in late October, \u201cthere has been significant progress on both sides in keeping our agreements current and accurate,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, China has ordered nearly 2 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans, ending a monthslong boycott, according to data by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That is still short of the 12 million metric tons that the White House said China has agreed to buy before next year. <\/p>\n<p>Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins said Monday on CNBC that \u201cevery sign is their commitment remains true that they will indeed buy or purchase 12 million metric tons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House also said China pledged to buy 25 million metric tons of soybeans in each of the next three years. China has yet to confirm such figures.<\/p>\n<p>Beijing also <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fentanyl-china-trump-tariffs-export-restrictions-dee0989539d866b04b129574e63b3635\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">placed export restrictions<\/a> on 13 \u201cdrug-making\u201d chemicals to the United States, Canada and Mexico, including those that are used to produce the synthetic opioid blamed for tens of thousands of <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/us-overdose-deaths-opioids-1561a9f189255ad60c533462f10490a2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overdose deaths in the U.S.<\/a> every year.
