NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) — Wiping away tears, family members held photos of 19-year-old Masi Rogers as the Newark community rallied around them.<\/p>\n
“Let no more harm, hurt or danger come to this family, Lord,” said Minister Hassans Kirby.<\/p>\n
Rogers is now the third victim to die from gunshot wounds after two shooters opened fire November 15th on Chancellor Avenue<\/a>.<\/p>\n Prosecutors have offered a ten-thousand-dollar reward for information leading to those responsible.<\/p>\n Jordan Garcia, 10, was killed. His 11-year-old brother is still recovering. Kia Mae Scott, 21, was also killed, leaving behind a 3-year-old son. A 60-year-old man is also still recovering.<\/p>\n “I didn’t expect nothing like this at all. Nothing like this. Very respectful, and a good person,” Anthony Kornegay, Coach of the Jackie Robinson Bears.<\/p>\n Masi Rogers’ former coaches consoled friends and former teammates on the field where they once played together.<\/p>\n “He always had a good spirit, always had a good heart. And this is really a tragedy,” said Newark Pop Warner League Coach Alshahid Hillman.<\/p>\n It is tragedy Rogers’ former teacher Bahsir Akinyele has experienced before. He’s lost more than 50 former students to gun violence in the last 25 years. He’s also an anti-violence activist.<\/p>\n “What’s going through my mind is outrage. We lost another young brother to violence in the streets, senseless community violence. Although data is saying that homicides are down by 50%. But when you lose a loved one, you know, the data don’t mean anything,” Akinyete said.<\/p>\n “If we do what’s right for him, if we do what’s right for Jordan, if we do what’s right for Kia, if we do what’s right for all of them, then that means it’s going to bring out the best of all of us,” said Patrick Council of Newark City Council.<\/p>\n Tuesday marks a week since authorities last provided a public update on the investigation.<\/p>\n So far there are no arrests in the shooting that has devastated this community.<\/p>\n ———- Submit a tip or story idea to Eyewitness News<\/p>\n
