Following his ESPN interview when he said the College Football Playoff<\/a><\/strong> committee does not have a \u201cdata point<\/a><\/strong>\u201d about how Lane Kiffin\u2019s<\/a><\/strong> potential departure would impact Ole Miss<\/a><\/strong>, Hunter Yurachek<\/strong> was pressed further. During a teleconference with reporters Tuesday night, he reiterated the CFP selection committee does not look ahead.<\/p>\n

On3\u2019s Brett McMurphy<\/a><\/strong> asked Yurachek to clarify his comments from earlier Tuesday. Speaking with ESPN\u2019s Rece Davis<\/strong>, the CFP selection committee chairman confirmed it\u2019s in the \u201cprotocol\u201d to account for a team without a key coach or player. On3\u2019s Chris Low<\/a><\/strong> previously reported Ole Miss\u2019 ranking could be impacted<\/a><\/strong> if Kiffin leaves.<\/p>\n

When asked whether that meant the committee cannot negatively impact the Rebels\u2019 spot in the Top 25, Yurachek said the committee will addressed it if \u2013 or when \u2013 the time comes. For now, there is no \u201cdata point.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll take care of that when it happens,\u201d Yurachek said. \u201cWe don\u2019t look ahead. The loss of a player, the loss of a key coach is in the principles of how we rank the teams. But again, we don\u2019t have a data point for Ole Miss without their head coach.\u201d<\/p>\n

After being asked a follow-up about whether the committee could penalize Ole Miss, Yurachek said Kiffin\u2019s departure would be \u201cconsidered\u201d by the committee if that were to happen. It adds to the intrigue around the situation, which comes as Ole Miss gets ready for its rivalry game against Mississippi State<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The eyes of the college football world have been on Kiffin as he weighs his next steps. On3\u2019s team of insiders reported LSU<\/a><\/strong>, Florida<\/a><\/strong> and Ole Miss are preparing lucrative offers<\/a><\/strong> as the rumors swirl, and Pete Nakos<\/a><\/strong> added the sense is Kiffin \u201cholds the keys<\/a><\/strong>\u201d to the coaching carousel.<\/p>\n

Tuesday night, when the fourth College Football Playoff rankings came out, Ole Miss fell one spot to No. 7. Oregon<\/a><\/strong>, following a win over USC<\/a><\/strong> last week, jumped up to No. 6. When asked by Davis about whether Lane Kiffin\u2019s future came up during the conversations, Yurachek \u2013 after making a \u201c6-7\u201d joke \u2013 said that was not the case. Instead, it was a testament to Oregon\u2019s ability to get a marquee victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t have any discussion about Ole Miss and their coach,\u201d Yurachek said. \u201cThat was all about Oregon and their performance against USC. Their strength of schedule continues to climb. They\u2019ve been dominant on the offense and defensive side of the ball. Really good in special teams.
