He appeared on Tuesday for a detention hearing, in which a judge ordered him to be held pre-trial.<\/p>\n<p>Two 14-year-olds were also charged \u2014 one was charged with first-degree murder and the other was charged with armed robbery. (Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>All three suspects are reportedly from Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/politics\/executive\/homeland-security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Homeland Security<\/a> told Fox News that records show Rodriguez-Vazquez is believed to have crossed into the U.S. in September 2023 near Eagle Pass, Texas.\u00a0 He was arrested and released at the time along with his mother.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant State\u2019s Attorney Todd Kleist also said in a court filing in the stabbing case that Rodriguez-Vasquez&#8217;s contact with Texas law enforcement in 2023 was documented as an &#8220;alien inadmissibility&#8221; case.<\/p>\n<p>Rodriguez-Vasquez has no prior criminal history in Illinois, according to Kleist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/staten-island-teen-charged-murder-after-allegedly-beheading-mothers-boyfriend-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>STATEN ISLAND TEEN CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER ALLEGEDLY BEHEADING MOTHER\u2019S BOYFRIEND: REPORT<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Chicago-Police-vehicle.png\" alt=\"Chicago Police cruiser\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Wuinayker Rodriguez-Vasquez, 16, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder. (Beata Zawrzel\/NurPhoto via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/crime\/homicide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stabbing attack<\/a> happened at around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday in the Chicago Loop, where the victim was sleeping near his cat and belongings, including a skeleton mask.<\/p>\n<p>A group that included Rodriguez-Vasquez and the two 14-year-olds allegedly approached the victim while Rodriguez-Vasquez had a knife hidden in his sleeve and another teenager held a metal rod, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>One of the teenagers grabbed the victim\u2019s mask and ran. When the victim stood up, Rodriguez-Vasquez allegedly kicked him, prosecutors said. One of the 14-year-olds allegedly struck the victim, and Rodriguez-Vasquez is accused of stabbing him in the back, causing him to collapse.<\/p>\n<p>The attack was captured on surveillance video.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/homeland-security-logo.jpg\" alt=\"homeland security logo\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>DHS said records show Wuinayker Rodriguez-Vasquez is believed to have crossed into the U.S. in September 2023 near Eagle Pass, Texas. The medical examiner ruled the cause of death a stab wound to the back and the manner of death a homicide.<\/p>\n<p>Police later detained the teenagers after spotting people on camera wearing the same clothing seen in surveillance footage. Rodriguez-Vasquez was found with a knife, and he was later identified by his mother and another member of the group.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.onelink.me\/xLDS?pid=AppArticleLink&amp;af_dp=foxnewsaf%3A%2F%2F&amp;af_web_dp=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fapps-products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said Rodriguez-Vasquez was seen in stills from after the incident &#8220;displaying a knife to the group, making stabbing motions, and wearing the victim\u2019s skeleton mask on his head.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A Chicago police source told Fox News this was an especially heinous and cruel murder of an innocent homeless man, saying that it was a &#8220;mob style&#8221; attack in which some of the suspects were laughing afterward.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News&#8217; Patrick McGovern and Mathew Finn contributed to this report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
