The mayor could secure a majority of appointees whose terms would extend beyond Adams\u2019s final days in office, Mastro said in an interview.<\/p>\n<p data-uri=\"www.audacy.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmif0h9hj000h3b7tfixrcdvv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" class=\"paragraph paragraph--station\">\u201cIt\u2019s a nine-person board,\u201d Mastro said. \u201cAt least five of the people on that board would be people who were either appointed by Mayor Adams before or could be appointed by Mayor Adams to continue\u201d into 2026.<\/p>\n<p data-uri=\"www.audacy.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmif0h9jf000i3b7tlhtbn932@published\" data-editable=\"text\" class=\"paragraph paragraph--station\">The board\u2019s composition will be critical for Mamdani, whose rent-freeze platform was central to his election victory. They say Mamdani\u2019s plans would be disastrous for property finances, warning that it would shrink housing supply. Two members of the panel are supposed to represent tenants and often vote in favor of rent freezes. One of the seats Adams can fill represents tenants. Earlier this year the board approved a 3% price increase for one-year leases by a narrow margin.<\/p>\n<p data-uri=\"www.audacy.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmif0h9u3000o3b7tehzdkd48@published\" data-editable=\"text\" class=\"paragraph paragraph--station\">In the interview, Mastro also criticized leaders in the City Council for trying to stymie appointments and reappointments requested in September, including five nominees for the Board of Health and two for the City Planning Commission. Two nominees were rejected earlier on Tuesday by a City Council committee.
