Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"K5XZP34RJ5H47PVEFO6MIVTECE\">Figures released by the governor\u2019s office show 321,000 checks totaling $83.8 million were sent out in Syracuse and CNY as part of the state\u2019s first-ever Inflation Refund Check program. Families or joint tax filers could receive up to $400, and individuals could get as much as $200.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HPEN6DFBTJBRJLXDKOLTBAOKYQ\">A total of 8.2 million checks were sent out statewide for a total of more than $2 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UPM4V2B7VBDOLAZIO27PF2I2R4\">Hochul described the one-time, direct payments as a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/state\/2025\/03\/ny-inflation-refund-checks-how-much-will-you-get-when.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/state\/2025\/03\/ny-inflation-refund-checks-how-much-will-you-get-when.html\">refund<\/a>\u201d because increased consumer prices, due to inflation, led to more money collected through Empire State sales tax than expected. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BDVUVJQ72NH4LH7235WH2MZQQ4\">\u201cWe followed through on our commitment to deliver meaningful relief to hard-working New Yorkers, and will continue, every day, to look for additional opportunities to deal with the nation\u2019s ongoing affordability challenge,\u201d Hochul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-announces-more-8-million-inflation-refund-checks-have-been-mailed-out-time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-announces-more-8-million-inflation-refund-checks-have-been-mailed-out-time\">said<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ROHVLQG65NERZBRCRBJAOP3TZA\">Hochul\u2019s office said the main phase of the mailing out inflation refunds is now complete. A small number of additional checks will be mailed out in the coming weeks as the State Tax Department determines eligibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"P5C2UM655RDMNOFNHUERO5NMPI\">To qualify, New York residents must have filed a state income tax return for the 2023 tax year and have an adjusted gross income (AGI) of less than $150,000 for single filers or $300,000 for joint filers. Those who did not file taxes, earned more than those amounts, or were claimed as dependents are not eligible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"K6JAP74HNZB4DNCK3ULOT2UORI\">Payments for qualified recipients were $400 for families or joint tax filers who make less than $150,000; $300 for families making between $150,000.01 and $300,000; $200 for individuals making less than $75,000; and $150 for individuals making between $75,000.01 and $150,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3F4G5HZMLRCT3I5RDXKJVGREDY\">Checks were issued automatically by the state Department of Taxation and Finance using data from 2023 tax returns. The state says the checks are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/politics\/2025\/10\/ny-inflation-refund-checks-are-taxable-what-you-need-to-know.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/politics\/2025\/10\/ny-inflation-refund-checks-are-taxable-what-you-need-to-know.html\">considered taxable income by the federal government<\/a>, but not New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CIY5FCAPONCQLO7PAYJAUENMYY\">Here is a breakdown of how many inflation refund checks were sent out in each New York state region and their total benefits:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"article__unordered-list\">\n<li id=\"H7BFZ4J2URDGXIXNJ4CZV6PXWI\">New York City: 3.536 million ($828.8 million)<\/li>\n<li id=\"7PAPAXNOD5AWVDLH2NU2W5YUFM\">Long Island: 1.251 million ($316.4 million)<\/li>\n<li id=\"LOYJM3MHTFGBTFQEGRUIIR2D2I\">Mid-Hudson: 924,000 ($234.2 million)<\/li>\n<li id=\"T5FNUM353RB2LA6XJYJM27BFZE\">Western New York: 585,000 ($152.7 million)<\/li>\n<li id=\"RKQV4HZNLZCNXBNRXUXBDU36UU\">Finger Lakes: 513,000 ($134.3 million)<\/li>\n<li id=\"ABWF23FJKVGWFHLFXL3QNYT624\">Capital Region: 475,000 ($122.8 million)<\/li>\n<li id=\"3HENQYGZCRGHPFZ4NSFRJRNPZY\">Central New York: 321,000 ($83.8 million)<\/li>\n<li id=\"C5YTXDQIDZE6TFKMU7AFAPNXAI\">Southern Tier: 251,000 ($66.7 million)<\/li>\n<li id=\"FQODOOVH6JB63M6HRPBSGM33ZE\">Mohawk Valley: 198,000 ($52.4 million)<\/li>\n<li id=\"TTPEQTE6OBBSTP6L6S67AMFMVU\">North Country: 156,000 ($42.4 million)<\/li>\n<li id=\"UQEVANTTW5FLRFWSF2KBJ7QNYU\">TOTAL: 8.21 million ($2.035 billion)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Central New York residents have received nearly $84 million in inflation refund checks, Gov.
