The list of contenders in the Bexar County District Attorney race just keeps growing. <\/p>\n

Prosecutor Oscar Salinas announcing late Tuesday that he filed paperwork to run as an independent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Salinas, a University of Texas School of Law grad, served as a Bexar County prosecutor for more than a decade. In a statement, he said his campaign will focus on communication and adding more victim advocates to keep people informed about where their cases stand.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Salinas also said he would make general case timelines public.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople deserve clear answers,\u201d Salinas said in a statement. \u201cThey deserve timely updates. They deserve a justice system that does not leave them in the dark. My focus is communication, accountability and rebuilding trust.\u201d<\/p>\n

Salinas is now the eighth candidate to either express interest or file paperwork in the race to replace current Bexar County DA Joe Gonzales, who\u2019s retiring at the end of his second term.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So far, former Court of Appeals Justice Luz Elena Chapa, criminal defense attorney Shannon Locke, prosecutor Meli Carri\u00f3n Powers and legal expert Veronica Legaretta have filed to run as Democrats.<\/p>\n

Former Assistant Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Ashley Foster is the sole Republican to file.\u00a0<\/p>\n

State Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer launched an exploratory committee and is still pondering a run as a Dem, while former Bexar County District Attorney Jason Wolff is considering a bid as an independent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The deadline to file is Dec. 8.\u00a0<\/p>\n
