Police are concerned for the welfare of the mother of a newborn baby found outside a fire station in Canberra’s south.<\/p>\n
The baby is estimated to be less than 24 hours old.<\/p>\n
The baby was found outside South Tuggeranong Fire and Rescue Station in Conder just after 7am and has since been taken to Canberra Hospital with no obvious injuries.<\/p>\n
It is not known how long the baby had been outside the station before it was found.<\/p>\n
In a media statement, ACT Policing said their sole concern was for the health and welfare of the baby’s mother.<\/p>\n
“If you think a friend or family member may be the mother \u2014 please encourage them [to] seek medical help as soon as possible,” the statement said.<\/p>\n
“She should attend a hospital, ring an ambulance or contact police.”<\/p>\n
Anyone who witnessed or has dash-cam footage of people or vehicles at or near the fire station overnight and early this morning is being asked to come forward.<\/p>\n
