Legendary late-night host David Letterman<\/a> went after President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0in a podcast posted Tuesday after Trump slammed late-night comic Seth Meyers in a Truth Social post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During an episode of \u201cThe Barbara Gaines Show<\/a>\u201d \u2013\u00a0hosted by former \u201cLetterman\u201d producer Barbara Gaines<\/a> \u2013\u00a0Letterman defended Meyers from Trump\u2019s criticism and mocked the president.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president of the United States now wants to fire Seth Meyers<\/a>. Yeah. And I thought, \u2018This is just delightful. How do you think that\u2019s going to go?\u2019 So, anyway, I\u2019ve never been more proud of Seth Meyers,\u201d the late-night icon said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump ripped the host of NBC\u2019s \u201cLate Night With Seth Meyers\u201d<\/a> on his social media platform on Nov. 15.<\/p>\n

\u201cNBC\u2019s Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome<\/a> (TDS). He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his \u2018show\u2019 is a Ratings DISASTER. Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!\u201d<\/p>\n

After Trump posted the criticism, Federal Communications Commission Chair\u00a0Brendan Carr<\/a>, a Trump appointee, shared it to his own X account, prompting critics to accuse the government official of using his office to make NBC do Trump\u2019s bidding.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s call for Meyers\u2019 firing comes after late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was\u00a0suspended by ABC<\/a>\u00a0for several days in September for comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk\u2019s alleged assassin, and months after CBS announced that \u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert\u201d<\/a> would be canceled next spring.<\/p>\n

Letterman joked that Meyers should be careful not to bring on Trump\u2019s wrath.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut just remember, Seth, \u2018things happen,\u2019\u201d the host quipped. <\/p>\n

He was mocking\u00a0Trump\u2019s defense\u00a0of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman<\/a> when the leader was confronted about the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi<\/a> by an ABC News reporter last week in the Oval Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elsewhere during the podcast, Letterman was less tongue-in-cheek with his criticism of Trump, calling him a \u201cdictator.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In response to Gaines referencing Trump calling a Bloomberg\u00a0reporter \u201cpiggy\u201d\u00a0on Air Force One last week, Letterman said, \u201cOh, how about that? Oh my God, that was so good. Oh man, just a wonder of idiocy. It\u2019s just fantastic. It knows no bounds.\u201d<\/p>\n
