{"id":408305,"date":"2025-11-27T12:31:34","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T12:31:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/408305\/"},"modified":"2025-11-27T12:31:34","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T12:31:34","slug":"colorado-says-it-doesnt-plan-to-transfer-former-elections-clerk-tina-peters-to-federal-custody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/408305\/","title":{"rendered":"Colorado says it doesn&#8217;t plan to transfer former elections clerk Tina Peters to federal custody"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DENVER (AP) \u2014 Colorado doesn\u2019t plan to <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/who has become a hero to election conspiracy theorists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transfer from state prison<\/a> to federal custody a former county clerk who has become a hero to election conspiracy theorists following a request from the Trump administration, state officials said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Colorado Department of Corrections said it is not seeking a transfer of Tina Peters, who was <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tina-peters-colorado-clerk-election-vote-fraud-b456ce4f80dc97f4b967eb6297311a51\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">convicted last year<\/a> of orchestrating a scheme in Mesa County to breach voting machine data driven by false claims of fraud in the 2020 election. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransferring an individual is an action initiated by the Colorado Department of Corrections, not an outside entity,\u201d department spokesperson Alondra Gonzalez-Garcia said in an email. <\/p>\n<p>The Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to comment. <\/p>\n<p>Peters, 70, is serving a nine-year sentence at a state prison in Pueblo. <\/p>\n<p>The Bureau of Prisons requested on Nov. 12 that the state corrections department transfer her to federal custody to serve her sentence. The reason isn\u2019t known.<\/p>\n<p>A copy of the request released by the state corrections department was heavily redacted. The department said releasing that information was \u201ccontrary to the public interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peters\u2019 release has become a cause celebre in the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/voting-machines-election-conspiracies-republicans-trump-f867ef5ed8d66f375066f8cbdb25cdf4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">election conspiracy movement<\/a>. On Sunday, President Donald Trump renewed his call for her to be set free. They have been urging Gov.
