Stern dies at 86"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York architect Robert A.M. Stern died Thursday at the age of 86, partners at the RAMSA architecture firm he founded said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>They said Stern passed away comfortably in his Manhattan home.<\/p>\n<p>RAMSA, originally founded by Stern as Robert A.M. Stern Architects in 1969, grew to become a 250-person firm led by 18 partners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThroughout his distinguished career, Stern shaped the built environment, contributed to the education of multiple generations of architects, and raised public awareness of the importance of preservation and the role design plays in communities and in society at large,\u201d the RAMSA partners said.<\/p>\n<p>Stern designed several museums and libraries, taught at Columbia University and and led Yale\u2019s School of Architecture. Stern also designed 15 Central Park West, sometimes referred to as one of the cities\u2019 most elegant residential buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Stern was a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and received numerous awards and honors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"New York architect Robert A.M.
