Stephen A. Smith railed at Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) for appearing in a now-viral video<\/a> alongside five other Democratic lawmakers, in which they encouraged military service members to disobey illegal orders from President Donald Trump\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n

During Wednesday\u2019s episode of his \u201cStraight Shooter<\/a>\u201d SiriusXM show, the sports commentator argued that Kelly, a retired Navy captain, \u201ccrossed the line\u201d and had \u201cno business\u201d delivering the message. <\/p>\n

In addition to Kelly, Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-Pa.), Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D-N.H.), Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.), and Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.), who all have military and intelligence backgrounds, also appeared in the footage that has since amassed 18 million-plus views on X. <\/p>\n

\u201cHow dare you do that? I\u2019m not a military person, and I know better than that,\u201d Smith said. \u201cBut you know better, Senator Kelly. You know better.\u201d <\/p>\n

The ESPN host went on to rebuke the Arizona senator for not having gone through the \u201cnecessary process\u201d to address his concerns about the Trump administration\u2019s orders. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou are an elected official in the nation\u2019s capital. We have a constitution. You got a problem \u2014 you go through the necessary process,\u201d he said. \u201cWhether it\u2019s [House Minority Leader] Hakeem Jeffries in the house or [Senate Minority Leader Chuck] Schumer in the Senate or anybody else.\u201d <\/p>\n

Smith added, \u201cThat is the point\u2026 you don\u2019t go in front of the cameras and give military officers or military personnel a directive to ignore their commander-in-chief.\u201d <\/p>\n

Noting that he has family members and friends who have served in all four branches of the military, he claimed that \u201cnot one of them [said] that [the video] was OK.\u201d <\/p>\n

Smith then said that Kelly could\u2019ve \u201cstart[ed] articles of impeachment if you think there\u2019s something illegal [going on].\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, damn it ain\u2019t like y\u2019all haven\u2019t done it before. You impeached [Trump] twice,\u201d he continued. \u201cWhere did that get you? Got [Trump\u2019s] behind back in the White House. Had you left him alone since 2020, maybe he wouldn\u2019t be back terrorizing the Democratic Party<\/a> the way that he is.\u201d <\/p>\n

Trump was impeached twice<\/a> during his first presidency, but was acquitted by the U.S. Senate<\/a> in both cases.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the episode, Smith questioned why Kelly and his fellow Democrats<\/a> didn\u2019t identify what the illegal orders were. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou didn\u2019t tell us what it was \u2026 Trump is giving illegal orders? What are the illegal orders? How come you didn\u2019t tell us [what they were]? Where\u2019s the evidence?\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

Smith\u2019s comments came after the Department of Defense announced Monday on X <\/a>that it is opening an investigation into Kelly following the video\u2019s release. <\/p>\n

Trump called the video \u201cSEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR<\/a>\u201d on social media and reposted a message that called for the lawmakers to be executed. <\/a><\/p>\n

Secretary of Defense Pete <\/a>Hegseth<\/a> called the video \u201cdespicable, reckless, and false\u201d in an X post,<\/a> while White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt accused Democratic lawmakers of trying to \u201csow chaos and distrust<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, GOP Senators John Curtis<\/a> (Utah) and Lisa Murkowski<\/a> (Alaska) defended<\/a> Kelly in X posts amid the Pentagon probe<\/a> into \u201cserious allegations of misconduct\u201d against the senator. <\/p>\n
