{"id":409669,"date":"2025-11-28T02:30:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T02:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/409669\/"},"modified":"2025-11-28T02:30:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T02:30:15","slug":"bruins-flipping-over-latest-goal-celebration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/409669\/","title":{"rendered":"Bruins flipping over latest goal celebration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Since the road game <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/11\/13\/sports\/bruins-senators-nhl-hockey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/11\/13\/sports\/bruins-senators-nhl-hockey\/\">against the Senators on Nov. 13<\/a>, the Bruins have a new tradition after lighting the lamp.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">As they make their way down the line of fist bumps awaiting them at the bench, Geekie and several other players flick their wrists, mimicking the usual protocol of blizzards getting flipped upside-down before being served to customers. <\/p>\n<p>Get Starting Point<\/p>\n<p>A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">As Geekie explains it, it was that routine \u2014 one foreign to winger <b>Viktor Arvidsson<\/b> \u2014 that sparked the creation of a new celly while grabbing a bite in Ottawa. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Geekie on the new celly going to the bench:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We went to Dairy Queen, and I think it was Viktor Arvidsson didn\u2019t know that they dump them upside down and they have to. We said we would do it when we go through the line, all the guys that went with us. It\u2019s spreading a little\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1xQHHRV1Xh\">pic.twitter.com\/1xQHHRV1Xh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Belle Fraser (@bellefraser1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bellefraser1\/status\/1992128293559271442?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">November 22, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cI personally think that the Canadian Dairy Queen is above and beyond the American Dairy Queen, which, it\u2019s up for debate. But as a Canadian, obviously you know what I\u2019m going to say,\u201d Geekie, a native of Strathclair, Manitoba, said. \u201cAnd Arvy had never been to a Dairy Queen \u2014 ever. And so we were talking it up, and he didn\u2019t understand that they flip it upside-down because it\u2019s so thick or whatever. If they don\u2019t do it, it\u2019s supposed to be free. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cSo we were showing him, we all paid, and the one guy working there came over and just started flipping, like, six of them at a time. So, it was this huge joke, everyone\u2019s flipping them, and [Arvidsson] didn\u2019t understand what was going on.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">As they made their way to Canadian Tire Centre, Geekie credited <b>Charlie McAvoy<\/b> for coming up with the idea of the \u201cDQ flip\u201d to celebrate a goal.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">It was an initiative that nearly died on the vine, however, after Geekie scored the first goal of the night in the second period. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cI totally forgot,\u201c Geekie admitted. \u201cAnd so I was like, \u2018Ah, well, that\u2019ll be the death of that.\u2019 But then [<b>Mark Kastelic<\/b>] scored that same game, and he was there, so he started doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cThat was my first goal against Ottawa, my former team,\u201d Kastelic added. \u201cSo I think I was just excited and remembered that that was the plan the day before, to do the flip. Thankfully, I remembered it going down the line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">It may not be as choreographed as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/sports\/bruins\/2019\/02\/23\/are-carolina-hurricanes-jerks-just-having-fun\/C0qtgPPOX3jSCtpZ6pn3eN\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/sports\/bruins\/2019\/02\/23\/are-carolina-hurricanes-jerks-just-having-fun\/C0qtgPPOX3jSCtpZ6pn3eN\/story.html\">Carolina\u2019s \u201cStorm Surge,\u201d<\/a> or born out of as eventful a chain of events <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/07\/29\/sports\/red-sox-twins-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as the 2025 Red Sox\u2019 \u201cplane turbulence\u201d celebration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">But it\u2019s gaining traction, with <b>Tanner Jeannot<\/b> continuing the tradition on Wednesday after snapping a puck past <b>Ilya Sorokin\u2019s<\/b> glove <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/11\/26\/sports\/bruins-islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the 3-1 win over the Islanders. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cWe had like six or seven of us that were there and started doing it,\u201d Geekie said. \u201cYou can kind of see the guys on the bench do it, too. It\u2019s a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zadorov lends a hand<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Defenseman <b>Nikita Zadorov <\/b>spends most of his shifts doling out punishment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">On Thursday morning, Zadorov and his family instead handed out pies to those in need as part of the Bruins\u2019 annual Thanksgiving Pie Delivery event \u2014 making stops at local organizations including St. Francis House and the Pine Street Inn. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">This marks the 16th season that a Bruins player has delivered pies on Thanksgiving morning. <b>Aaron Ward <\/b>started by donating turkeys in 2008, with <b>Dennis Wideman<\/b> being the first Bruin to hand out pies, the following year.<\/p>\n<p>Quiet reflection <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">While Zadorov is ingratiating himself to Bruins fans, he might be persona non grata on Long Island. Whenever he touched the puck on Wednesday night, the drone of boos usually followed, given Zadorov\u2019s candid comments about the lack of energy at the Islanders\u2019 barn during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/11\/04\/sports\/bruins-islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/11\/04\/sports\/bruins-islanders\/\">Bruins\u2019 last visit on Nov. 4<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cWe needed to create our own energy because the crowd was sleeping tonight a little bit,\u201d Zadorov <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SNY_Islanders\/status\/1985879375125102724\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">said of causing a fracas<\/a> by shoving rookie <b>Matthew Schaefer<\/b> in that shootout win. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Zadorov continued on social media after several Islanders fans directed some heated messages toward him.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cGet out of my DMs and go to the rink to cheer for your team,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BR_OpenIce\/status\/1986073025901441445\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">Zadorov wrote on Instagram.<\/a> \u201cThat place was [a library] tonight!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Zadorov \u2014 who subsequently posted a photo of himself reading a book at UBS Arena after Wednesday\u2019s win \u2014 continued to poke the bear after completing a season sweep of the Islanders. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cNo,\u201d Zadorov said when asked if he heard the jeers. \u201cDid they boo me?
