\n\tAs Shawn Levy<\/a> prepares to leave his mark on the Star Wars<\/a> franchise, the director has enlisted \u201ca maestro\u201d to compose the movie\u2019s score.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Star Wars: Starfighter<\/a> director recently revealed that 15x Oscar nominee Thomas Newman<\/a> will score the upcoming installment, which is set to premiere<\/a> in theaters on May 28, 2027 in the United States. Deadline has reached out to Lucasfilm.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI know, bro. I don\u2019t know if that\u2019s public, so now it is. Yeah, I think we\u2019re breaking news here,\u201d he enthusiastically said on the On Film\u2026with Kevin McCarthy<\/a> podcast. \u201cYou don\u2019t understand. If you ask me to name my favorite scores, five of the top 10 are Tom Newman: Shawshank, Road to Perdition, Nemo, American Beauty. The guy is a maestro.<\/p>\n

\n\tLevy continued, \u201cAnd I was thinking about this movie and what I need the music to be, because it wants to be sort of classically inspired. But no, it\u2019s not gonna be remixes of Williams cues. It may be inspired by some of that, but I knew that I needed a big-hearted movie score from a composer, who like John Williams, doesn\u2019t shy away from themes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWilliams scored George Lucas<\/a>\u2018 original Star Wars<\/a> (1977), the music of which has since become synonymous with the franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSo, I called up Tom Newman. You don\u2019t understand, I\u2019m a fan,\u201d added Levy. \u201cAnd I said, \u2018Hey, it\u2019s Shawn Levy. Would you ever consider\u2014?\u2019 And he said, \u2018Send me the script, and describe your vision.\u2019 And I did both those things, and it was yes. And I\u2019m so stoked. \u2026 I\u2019m so excited about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA standalone film outside the Skywalker saga, Starfighter is set five years after Star Wars: Episode IX \u2014 The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Penned by Jonathan Tropper, the movie stars Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Flynn Gray and Amy Adams.<\/p>\n
