{"id":41033,"date":"2025-07-05T15:08:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-05T15:08:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/41033\/"},"modified":"2025-07-05T15:08:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-05T15:08:14","slug":"nick-kyrgios-calls-for-major-tennis-rule-change-at-grand-slams-which-could-create-loads-of-new-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/41033\/","title":{"rendered":"Nick Kyrgios calls for major tennis rule change at Grand Slams which could create loads of new champions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The 2025 edition of the Wimbledon championships has been the year of upsets, with a record number of seeded players crashing out of both draws. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following Friday\u2019s play, just 12 seeds remain in the men\u2019s tournament, while four of the top five women\u2019s seeds are already out of the championships. <\/p>\n<p>The biggest shocks include world number three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/alexander-zverev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alexander Zverev<\/a>, Roland Garros champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coco Gauff<\/a>, and home hope <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jack-draper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack Draper<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>With the event wide open, a chance for a maiden appearance in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/Wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> final is now up for grabs for several stars, which is something <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/nick-kyrgios\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nick Kyrgios<\/a> would like to see even more going forward. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"660\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2222347248-1024x660.jpg\" alt=\"Coco Gauff of the United States reacts while playing against Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine in the first round on Day Two of The Championships Wimbledon 2025 at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.\" class=\"wp-image-107795\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty ImagesNick Kyrgios calls for a major rule change at Grand Slam events<\/p>\n<p>When asked on Talksport if women should play best of five sets, Kyrgios responded: \u201cNo. I actually want best of five sets to leave men\u2019s tennis as well, up until the quarter-final.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that would fix a lot of the scheduling issues, it would fix these delays on court in the earlier rounds, you would see more upsets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese bigger guys, especially in the first couple of rounds. Alcaraz went down an early set, and then already the alarm bells are ringing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like I am on the brink already, first round of Wimbledon, whereas you always knew he was going to find a way and win in the best of five.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it were best of three up to the quarter-finals, I think you are going to see a lot more intensity, and then when you get to the quarter-finals, you can play best of five sets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that would add a lot more excitement to Grand Slams. You would see a lot more new champions as well.
