Marie, which had previously dodged the more\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/11\/us-news\/polar-vortex-sends-arctic-blast-into-new-york-putting-tri-state-under-freeze-warning\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">intense snowbands<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Friday\u2019s heaviest snow is expected to set up around Interstate 86 around\u00a0Jamestown\u00a0and Olean, New York.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Farther north, another potent snowband is expected across Interstate 90, reaching\u00a0Rochester\u00a0and\u00a0Syracuse\u00a0in central Upstate New York and potentially even\u00a0Albany\u00a0in New York\u2019s Capital Region.<\/p>\n<p>The threat of rapidly changing,\u00a0whiteout road conditions\u00a0remains through Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Parts of Interstate 90 just south of\u00a0Erie,\u00a0Pennsylvania\u00a0were closed due to a disabled vehicle and speed restrictions were in place on Thanksgiving morning.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest lake-effect snow event of the season is breaking records, delivering feet of snow to the Great Lakes Snowbelt and continuing to snarl holiday travelers driving and flying home from Thanksgiving on Friday, FOX Weather<\/p>\n<p>Whiteout conditions on Interstate 29 near Summit, South Dakota are putting travelers at risk. X \/ @SouthDakotaDOT<\/p>\n<p>That comes after an\u00a0initial winter storm system created treacherous travel conditions\u00a0and caused hundreds of crashes and dozens of driving injuries across the Dakotas,\u00a0Minnesota,\u00a0Wisconsin\u00a0and\u00a0Michigan\u00a0earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of\u00a0Milwaukee, Ozaukee County officials said a semi tractor-trailer lost control and jackknifed across the median on Interstate 43 and hit two oncoming cars, leaving one person dead Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>More than 55,000 customers were without power early Thanksgiving morning across Wisconsin, Michigan and western New York.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Friday\u2019s strongest lake-effect impacts will be felt along the Great Lakes Snowbelt in\u00a0Ohio,\u00a0Pennsylvania, western\u00a0New York\u00a0and New York\u2019s Tug Hill Plateau, where Lake-effect Snow Warnings remain in effect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the FOX Forecast Center, areas in western New York and northeastern Pennsylvania could still see close to a foot of snow from this event.<\/p>\n<p>An intense winter storm caused crashes on Interstate 94 in Minnesota on Wednesday and Thursday. X \/ @MSPPIO_NW<\/p>\n<p>Snow totals topped 25 inches in Northern Wisconsin and Michigan\u2019s Upper Peninsula through Friday morning. Hurley, Michigan has tallied 31.3 inches of snow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gaylord, Michigan set a daily snowfall record on Thanksgiving with 13.1 inches, breaking the previous record of 10.1 inches set in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>National Weather Service offices are advising those who have to travel to prepare for rapidly deteriorating road conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of car crashes and dozens of driving injuries have taken place across the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.<br \/>\n X \/ @MSPPIO_NW<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the snow bands come in, you literally can\u2019t see anything, so this is going to be a no travel zone,\u201d warned\u00a0FOX Weather Meteorologist Britta Merwin.<\/p>\n<p>Major highways that remain at greatest risk of blowing snow and life-threatening conditions include the Interstate 90 corridor across Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York, as well as Interstates 94, 75 and 69 in Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the FOX Forecast Center is\u00a0tracking a second winter storm\u00a0that will <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/27\/us-news\/major-winter-storm-to-wreck-post-thanksgiving-travel-plans-for-millions-across-40-states\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">impact millions across more than 40 states<\/a>, just as many\u00a0holiday\u00a0travelers return home. <\/p>\n<p>Even more intense wind gusts and heavy snowfall are forecast for the central\u00a0US \u00a0with the potential to cause significant delays at major airports across the Central US.<\/p>\n<p>As millions begin to return home or head out for <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/28\/us-news\/black-friday-frenzy-inside-the-biggest-shopping-day-of-the-year\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Black Friday shopping<\/a>, an area of low pressure will develop in the Rockies, and is expected to bring\u00a0Denver\u2019s first snow of the season.<\/p>\n<p>A man shovels snow outside a church in Lowville, New York, on Friday, Nov. 28.
